2009 issues?
I currently own a 2003 Vert and looking at a 2009 Vert.
Are there any electrical of mechanical issues with the 2009 Verts and have there been any recalls that I should be aware of?

No real issues for the '09's. Just get a GMVIS report for the VIN your are considering. Any GM dealer service dept can print it for you to show what service and warranty work GM has done on the car.
Late '08 verts and early '09 verts (through about VIN 12700), about 6000 cars, had a recall on the fabric top retainer at the windshield header. It is an inexpensive part and a DIY repair if you're inclined and if the car didn't get it done. But I imagine most were done under the recall.

The C6 verts, probably the C5's too but I don't know, tend to have a problem with the little "bungie" type straps that pull the back of the top forward during operation so it doesn't hit the tonneau. The straps stretch and lose tension. They have to be replaced or tightened, both are not easy or cheap fixes. Most owners have resolved to just reach back and manually hold the back (actually bottom) of the top for a few seconds.
