just want opinions on if I will actually see better grip from going wider on the stock rims. Some say all you do is mushroom the tire or balloon it on the rim. I would like some advice from people that have in fact put 305-30-19 and 265-35-18 on their cars.

Depends on the tire if it's going to balloon on the rim, but you are safe with 255/295's. Hence, SS's are on the narrower side, while XS's are on the wider side.

Really, just have the tires mounted up on two rims (front and back), get the treads wet, and roll them to see the contact patch left on the shops floor to tell if they are ballooning or not on the rims.

09 Z51 Vert. Those are the sizes I put on stock rims. I did it for the wide tire look and I thought I might get better grip. I got Michlen Pilot Super Sports. I read lots of posts how it would be fine. I can feel the tires squirm on rims, especially the rear. The suspension sets differently with hard cornering. I don't like it. I think it changed handling for the worse. The car is properly aligned. The car is also corner weighted. I started out with 30 lbs air pressure and now run 34 lbs. That helped slightly. I will not get 305's again.

The minimal change in width will not help traction. Tire compound is more important than width.

i am thinking hankook ventus v12, I had falken 452 on the car since I bought it three years ago. I can get the hankooks for 720 or I could get Michelin pilot super sports for 950 or so. both in the slightly wider 305/265 combo. I just don't know whether the pilot sports are really worth it and how the hankooks handle. I do not track or autocross the car, but I drive it as hard as one can on the street

very interesting, do you think that is because the pilot ss are a wide tire to begin with

I went with those sizes but on 10/11 in rims.

I did not like how heavy the car handled. Especially the front end it just felt heavy and slow in response. This was on the street so not sure about higher speeds with harder cornering.

Invo tires were mounted.

I noticed the difference with the initially change as well as when going back to OEM rims and tire sizes.

I got them from Tire Rack. The guy stated if I autocross or race, which I don't with this car. I have an 04 ZO6 I track. Don't get that size. I think the tire is just too wide for stock rim.

I've been running a 305/265 combo for years w/o any issues. I have coilovers and joc bars as well......the car corners like it's on rails with NONE of the about stated issues. It has ALOT to due with tire selection for sure.
