Just got a floor jack and jack stands to make working on my 2011GS easier. Got a RPI ZR!-AL spoiler and definitely need to get the front end up to install it. I have leave in jack pucks so I know where the jacking points are. My question concerns use of the jack stand. There has to be places where they go so as not to cause any damage to anything. I am sure that many here can enlighten me. Thanks in advance for the help. I have learned so much about my car by being a member of this forum.
You need to get a bridge for the floor jack. Harbor Freight has one. Then you can lift the front end up all at once and place your jack stands on both sides and lower the car onto them.
It is dangerous to jack the car up from the side and try to put it on jack stands.
I use a 2x4that I place on the lifting point of the jack. Place it where it will be in contact with the front cross member. That way you can lift the front end as mention all at once and then place you stand at the front pucks. I also do the same in the rear. I also have 2, 2x4's so if I want teh side of the car clear, I place the jack stand at each end of the 2x4 in the front and rear.

I went big time and use a 2x6
Spreads the load a little better.
Whatever you use, be sure you are jacking on the crossmember and not on the oil pan, transverse spring, etc.
