Many times on road trips I have my IPHONE plugged in for music in the armrest storage compartment. However after a period of time my IPHONE gets so hot it is crazy. The storage unit gets awful hot. Does the IPHONE get abused by the heat? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks in advance .
This is a common problem. I have tired all the various products that the forum vendors have to solve this, the Console Insulation, Cup Insulation, Tunnel Plate Insulation - they all, even in combination do little to help.
That being said, I keep an old Iphone 4 in there that I used as an MP4 player and it gets hot a heck. Once it actually said that it was too hot to operate, but I wrapped it on some cloth and it as not done that again. It certainly is not "good" for it.
If it was my DD phone, I would not leave it in there. I used to have a car dock but with a good aftermarket head unit and bluethooth, I don't find any need to take it out of my pocket anymore so I removed the car dock.
I've been able to slow the heat down by adding insulation under the carpet and console, adding insulation to the underside of the tunnel and adding a heat shield between the cats and center tunnel plate......like is said, I managed to (only) slow the heat soaking down. On any of our long summer road trips, the console storage temps will still go over 100 degrees. Even in the rear storage area above the mufflers the heat will work its way through an extra added layer of insulation under the OEM carpet, a heavy (Lloyd's) carpet added over the OEM carpet and still the heat will go through luggage and warm up the clothes inside. It isn't so much about super high heat as it is constant (oven) heat over a long period of time.

I had the same problem. I bought an insulator that fits perfectly from one of the forum vendors. It makes a difference. The heat does not hurt the phone as much as it cuts down on battery life.
Can't speak to the phone, but my Ipod got so hot, three or four times, that it shut down. The last time after I "insulated" the console area. I don't leave electronics in there anymore.
I don't put my phone in the console for this and one other reason. I just snake the wire out of the console and connect my phone to it and put it in the cup holder. I don't mind this because if a thief looks in my car they will clearly see the wire is disconnected and there is no device to steal. Sometimes, depending on the area, I will even open up my console to prove there is nothing of value in the car. Not sure if it helps or not but what the heck.
It's an electronic, just like the many electronics in the car.
They are stuck sitting in the car, through the deep freeze of the winter through the dead heat of the summer and they work fine.
I have had my old school iphone touch in my car since 2012. I only take it out when i wanna sync new songs which is like once a month. Other than that it stays in the car. I don't even shut it off. I just leave it plugged via USB and it automatically charges when the car is running.
I have had zero problems since then. I even bought the ipod touch used too. No problems with any summer days. Never had a problem during the winter.
You guys worry too much lol
My actual phone on the other hand, i wouldn't leave in the car. Because i need it to make calls and texts lol

You need to read you Owner Manual more carefully.
That space under the center armrest is not a Storage Compartment, it's a Convection Oven. Takes about 30 minutes to make S'mores.
And that place offset to the side, that looks like cupholders?
It's a Fondue Pot. Takes a little longer to melt the cheese...
