Default Tunnel Plates

Dumb question time....

I see tunnel plates for sale all the time. Don't the C6's come with one? If so, what *are* these plates being sold do?

In pics of the plates, they are rimmed with holes for bolts..how do they attach in the car, or should I ask, what do they attach to?

Ok, dumb question over....

Thanks.

The C6 comes with a thinner tunnel plate from the factory. The aftermarket tunnel plates are thicker and it does make a difference in the ride. The thicker the plate, the stiffer the car feels, less flex when turning and more road feel. A 3/8" tunnel plate is a noticeable difference. The plate is installed by removing the factory plate and installing the aftermarket one directly on the chassis using the existing multiple small screws. You have to remove the middle part of the exhaust to get to the plate.

Sometimes dumb questions get great responses.

Thank you! I now know something more about my car! Appreciate the concise description of a tunnel plate.

I installed the Elite Engineering tunnel plate when I upgraded the exhaust. One of those 'as long as you're under there' deals, and with the pipes out it was very easy.

They have a few versions. The one I got is thicker, ceramic coated and has their 'Thermal Abs' insulating blanket attached.

Made a significant improvement in reducing the heat in the center console.

Owners that track their cars report an increase in chassis stiffness that improves handling. On the street SOTP results may not be as noticeable.

Well worth the very affordable cost, IMHO.
