I started a thread here last year when I was quoted a similar price for my GS's brakes. I learned that what drives up the price so much is that they include the replacement pins for the calipers along with the OE brake pads, and they aren't cheap.

A C6 brake job is one of the simplest brake jobs you will ever do. Check Brakemotive. Amazing prices for rotors and pads. They get very good reviews here.

Couple of things to consider - for OE pads that is likely a reasonable price.
I urge caution as many rotors can not be resurfaced today as they are built simply to thin to begin with.
So what starts as a 1200 brake jobs goes to 2200 when the rotors all need replaced.
Some dealers will only offer OE equipment for a number of reasons which I won't delve into.
Look at a good vette specialty garage or another higher end independent and get a quote from them.
Labor rates will likely be the same but they could source aftermarket parts and save you some $

Just FYI you can get a quality brake pad like the Carbotech 1521 in the 1 piece design for a total of $509.00 for pads and labor is nothing a how too link is below. If interested in the 1521, I will be happy to help you.

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Centric Posi-Quiet ceramic pads - $121
Brake Performance zinc-plated, cross-drilled rotors - $312

Yes, OEM parts & labor will cost more, but $1100? Wow.

The OEM semi-metallic GS pads are great brakes, I just couldn't deal with the excessive, sticky dust any more.

Would this pad be ok for occasional auto-cross or do you recommend another pad?

1521 is good for Street, Strip, Auto X and Half mile and Mile events. It will do HPDE but highly do not recommend as the pad material will Glaze after 8-900 degrees F. Off course if looking for more initial bite look at the AX6 or XP8.

Carbotech™ 1521™

The Carbotech™ 1521™ is our high performance street compound. The 1521™ compound is known for its release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. 1521™ is also a very low dusting and low noise compound with an excellent initial bite. This compound's excellent linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Carbotech™ 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 800°F (426°C+). 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle or fleet vehicle. Carbotech™ 1521™ is NOT recommended for ANY track use.

Carbotech™ AX6™

The AX6™ is specifically engineered for Autocross applications. A high torque brake compound delivering reliable and consistent performance over a very wide operating temperature range of 50°F to 1000°F + (10°C to 537°C+). The advanced compound matrix provides an excellent initial bite, high coefficient of friction at lower temperatures along with very progressive brake modulation and release characteristics. Many drivers use the AX6™ for street driving as well, even though Carbotech™ doesn't recommend street driving with AX6™ due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. AX6™ is NOT recommended as a race compound in most applications.

Carbotech™ XP8™

A high torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range of 200°F-1250°F+ (93°C to 676°C+). Carbotech™ XP8™ is the first of our racing compounds. Good initial bite at race temperatures, high coefficient of friction, excellent modulation and release characteristics. Extremely high fade resistance and very rotor friendly. Perfect for track day use with any tire and can still be driven safely to and from the track. Carbotech™ does NOT recommended XP8™ as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise. Carbotech™ XP8™ is a great compound on the front & rear of most open wheel and sports racers.

If you would like to give away about $500, then yes it is a fair deal. I changed my brake pads for less than $100.

I thought my dealer was a rip but yours may take the cake, they quoted me $193 per axle (hopefully he meant 2) front and back, and I supply the Ceramic pads, they would turn the rotors which I have been told you don't do anymore from various sources.
So I swapped out the VERY DUST PROVIDING OEM pads which were in good shape BTW, with Duralast Gold over the last 2 days. Waiting to "bed" them as it has been raining for the past day or so, will report back then.
I have never done this before but as they say "it is pretty easy" with the G.S./Z06 setup. With the help of this forum I was able to do it MYSELF, so you should also if you are even a 1/2 a shade tree mechanic.
Total cost for padlets, brake grease, can of brakeleen and a new 45 torx socket++++ $133.
If this helps

So the dealer said the rotors had to be turned and I asked why since they aren't scorched and he said its always has to be done when doing the pads.

Does anyone have a recommendation in south florida area where you had this done - thanks again

They are trying to make excuses for overcharging you. It does not always have to be done. How many miles on the car?
