Window Tint with a NAV
I just bought a 2008 coupe with NAV and no window tint. I was reading in the NAV manual that you shouldn't tint your rear window because the tint will interfere with the GPS antenna.
Could I get some real life feedback on this issue? I live in central Texas and the sun is a killer in the summer.

Referencing the 2008 Corvette Navigation System manual. On page 2-60, the manual discusses the GPS and how the satellite signals are used to determine the position of the vehicle.
It states aftermarket window tinting on the rear windshield can interfere or make the system unavailable. There is a NOTICE to not apply aftermarket window tint to the vehicle windows. It goes on to state that window tinting interferes with the system's ability to receive GPS signals and cause the system to malfunction.
That is why I am asking the question because I want window tint. I see many corvettes with tinting. I know that all do not have the NAV system. I just want to hear of people's experiences that have NAV and have installed an aftermarket window tint. I don't know how much I will use the NAV, but I don't want it negatively impacted.
BWF07, I have considered that also. Remove baby before folding stroller mentality.

Tinted windows here and no problem with the Navigation. Use it often.
Question, If the Nav is affected by tint, how does it work on Tahoes and Suburbans that have side and rear windows tinted from the factory? Different tint maybe?

Tinted windows and no issue with my NAV system, but I don't use it that often. The one on my cell phone is a better system. Oh and in the car with the cell in the console cup holder I have not issue with the GPS signal.

I talked to a tint shop today and told him of my concerns. He said with higher grade tints I did not have to worry. Some of lesser grade and older tints, such reflective type tints, did present some problems.
He showed me three levels of tint rated for not only their degree of darkness but also for their UV and radiation qualities. He had a heat lamp and a rotating display where you could feel the difference in the heat that passes thru the tint. You could really tell the difference in each tint. I opted for the one that blocked the most heat. Unfortunately he said that I couldn't have that one installed because of the curvature of the rear window and the thickness of the tint, so I chose the next level down. He said he uses various grades of sandpaper to reduce the height of the matrix and then installs the tint over the whole window.

GPS antennas are passive so I would think the only question here is, "does GPS signal penetrate window tinting." I'm sure the answer is yes, and others here with tint and factory nav/gps antenna seem to prove that. Tint away my friend, she looks much better that way.
