This summer , I started having problems with my '05 coupe low beams. They cut off inexplicably, then back on, until one night, I get stopped by a Shelby County deputy to tell me my left headlight is out. So, I go to an unnamed (for now) dealer, who hits me for $226 for a new low beam. I notice right away, its white, the right has a blue hue. I brought it back twice, thinking it might change but it hasn't. Dealer's service manager says " HID's fade with time. To get them the same, you have to replace both at the same time. " I disagree, since in the five years I've had this C6, the headlights haven't changed, until the left one quit. I requested reimbursement when the recall came, my contention is that when the buss kept causing the HID left lowbeam to continually go off, then on, it contributed to its failure. Denied.
So can anyone tell me if any of this is reasonable, or am I wrong? The variation on color , as I understand it, is a temperature issue. I've never heard the "fade over time" explanation.
One headlight going out isn't part of the recall. I can't see how the fuse box wire failing would place any more "stress" on a bulb than turning them off and on like everyone of ours does regularly.
I'm curious, though, have the low beams failed since the bulb was replaced?
Is it possible a previous owner put in the blue bulbs? If yes then it's on you to change the right side to stock white again or replace the new left one with a blue one, if you can figure out which temp is in the right side.

Actually, he said "they" (meaning both low beam, presumably) failed inexplicably. It's quite likely that the failure was due to the recall and the dealership misdiagnosed the problem and sold him a new bulb he didn't need.
Ditto, when the fuse rod (bare wire really) in the fuse box breaks and expands/contracts to clip the power to the low beams, your going to lose both low beams, not just the one side.
As for low beam bulbs, easy enough to change them you self to get them to match (read change out the blue hue bulb to a standard bulb to match the new bulb), and should only take a short time.
