I'm looking for some small side mirrors that I can remove and put back on very easily. I can not find any good examples of anyone running aftermarket side mirrors on a C6 and wondering if anyone in here is doing this or has any options/opinions?
I have heard removing side mirrors is worth 2-3mph in the standing mile from better aerodynamics. I plan to do a lot of 1/2 mile and standing mile racing in 2015 and looking to get every edge I can with my heavy car. I need a setup I can easily remove and put back on the car without removing door panels, etc
Anyone here done this? anyone have any thoughts on how to do this?

I haven't done it yet but most likely considering going with some craftsquare or APR universal mirrors and probably going to have to fabricate some sort of carbon fiber sheet on insider and outside for mounting and to cover the enormous hole the stock mirrors have.
Not sure it if was a corvette or some other car but I know I read an article about someone shaving the side mirrors and installing cameras. He could see the camera image through screens embedded on his rearview mirror.
It was actually pretty neat. Not sure about everyday driving functional, but neat none the less.

Might function quite well. I saw an article recently where Cadillac is going to have a rear view mirror (the one inside the car) that isn't a mirror at all, but is a camera view. You get a wider field of view, and are not blocked by something in the back seat. Presumably the camera mirror will be an option.

That is a cool idea but imagine how hard it would be to stop looking out the side for a door mirror after, in my case, 38 years.

Both side mirrors contain XM radio antennas. If this is important to you and the cables are not re-routed to a different antenna location, you will lose XM/Sirius. I found this out when mine were removed for a repaint and not hooked up correctly when reassembled. Had the dealer body shop that did the paint work fix it.
thanks guys! i know side mirrors are required actually which is crazy given camera technology, i know Elon Musk and tesla battled us gov on this because they wanted to use cameras for aero/mpg reasons and much larger field of view but the us gov wouldn't allow them as regulations required mirrors for some absurd reason, so hopefully that requirement was lifted. So I'd love to go with a camera setup but don't want to get pulled over and harassed.
I'm probably going to get some APR universal mirrors and fab up up some carbon fiber cover for the big hole, just need to find somewhere/one that has the APR mirrors so I can tell how hard or easy this is going to be and how easily the mirrors themselves can be removed and reinstalled for events....
i have no idea what the huge, power mirrors stock on a c6 weigh but will be interesting to see the weigth difference too
Interesting. Has anyone at a .5 or 1 mile experimented with this?
Hi Steve, I forgot where I heard this originally but I've talked to several standing mile guys and confirmed similar findings of no mirrors being worth 1-3mph depending on the car. There are youtube videos of vettes in wind tunnels also and it certainly looks to me like the side mirrors interrupt air flow pretty seriously on the side. If I can gain 1mph by removing side mirrors then I will consider this a home run. I'm going to guess the stock power mirrors weigh perhaps 12 lbs together? so removing that weight doesn't hurt but it not that material.
I'll be testing this in the 2015 season with side mirrors and without so we will see if my assumptions are correct or not. Happy to share the results.

thanks for this tip, I don't use XM/Sirius and don't even have it hooked up with my current setup so hopefully there are no weird errors or issues by removing stock power mirrors.
