Default C6 Stripes removeable?

Guys, I apologize for the dumb question... I have searched to no avail.

Looking at a '12 Centennial Edition GS. Car looks fantastic, and the carbon metallic paint is in excellent shape. However, there are some fine scratches on the satin black stripes that run over the hood, top and hatch... probably just from wiping the car down with some dust on it. Those things show scratches easily.

So my question is... could I just remove the stripes pretty easily? These are "stickers" right?

TIA.

They are a sticker but how easy they come off can vary. Heat usually helps. Depending on how long they have been on and how much sun exposure may leave a color difference in your paint.

Thanks, Byron... I figured as much about the potential paint color difference.

Another unfortunate predicament happened to me on a Porsche I had back in the day. It had some stickers from the factory that ran all along the bottom of the car. As I was trying to peel them off it started taking the clear coat with it out side of the sticker lines, had to repaint the car.
They might "MAP" also if they do come off, meaning you will be able to see where they were.
Do you just not like them or bad color combo ect.????????

Thanks for posting your experiences with stickers. I've never had any type of adhesive stickers on any of my cars. Factory emblems, yes, but those are easily removed, if desired, with some heat and fishing line.

This is a Centennial Edition GS car I am looking at purchasing to add to my stable. It's a '12 model with 6000 miles. Unfortunately, I am not local to the dealer, but the salesman is taking very good, up-close, pictures for me. I'm picky. The carbon metallic paint looks like it has been kept very well. The satin/matte black "ghost stripes" do have some surface scratches visible in good lighting. I don't know if you can even effectively wax/buff those stripes. If so, then the swirl marks (that's a better definition than scratches) may come out and I'd leave it alone. If not, then I would just want to remove the stripes.

Most of the stripes I've seen on GS's, 427 Anniversary cars, etc seem to have metallic flake in them...which effectively hides swirl marks a lot better than these satin black stripes.

Here is a pic of the hood. On the right/driver's side stripe, I can make out some light swirl marks/scratches. Nothing through the stripe itself, but I have no experience with "restoring" the finish of stickers to new/next-to-new condition.

Any additional thoughts/advice would be helpful.

I bought a used Centennial GS a year ago, one of the stipes on the hood had a chemical burn on them. The existing ones were easy to remove with a heat gun and going very slowly. I ordered a new set designed like the 60th, (wider and they go all the way to the bottom of the bumpers.) I get thumbs up from everyone who sees mine. The removed stripes left lines on the paint, it needed to be professionaly buffed out before the new stripes were installed. PMl me and I'll send you a couple of pictures if you want to see them.

Yep... I'm guessing there will be lines in the paint upon removal.

If the stripes were perfect would you like them? If so, buy some vinyl stripes the same or slightly larger than the current stripes. Remove the current ones and replace with the newer ones which will be perfect. This addresses any mapping which may be revealed by the stripe removal.

The lines weren't to bad, they were the edges of all of the lines, worse on the hood. If you buff them, go slow and be carefull. Mine was professionaly done because the new stripes were being installed by a company that does wraps. I can tell you if you're going to put on new stripes, the narrow Centennial style are much easier to install than the wider 60th style. There are many coumpound curves on the C6 that make installing wide long stripes a real PIA.

if you are looking at the car and are concerned, make a purchase contingent on them removing the stripes and ensuring there are no 'lines or scratches' from the removal, else, have that fixed up, too.

beware that the paint under the stripes have not been exposed to the elements in the same way the rest of the paint has .. not sure how I'd feel about that. I'd probably avoid a striped car, if it were me.

When I was looking at Grand Sports I really didn't like the 2 stripes over the wheels (just personal preference as I don't like any decals or stickers on paint). The guys at a big Corvette only dealer told me they would take them off and guarantee I'd be happy with the result before purchase. They said they used a heat gun and buffed out the paint. These were all very low mileage cars so I'd guess the faster you get them off the better.

W2F-I see you are in Allen TX. The dealer was Corvette World in Carrollton...if you have never been there you should go. Great place to see a lot of Vette's.

You may want to contact someone with stripe experience to determine if that can be improved with the correct polish or some other product. Be careful what you use, since it is vinyl. Cool one year only exterior color, Carbon Flash metallic.

I bought a 427 take off hood that was white with the silver stripes. I took a hair drier and heated up the stripes and they came off just fine. Had to do a lot of tugging and pulling but they did come off with no damage to the paint.

I didn't really care though as I was going to paint the hood anyway.

Yes, I'm very familiar with CW, and know several of the tech/shop guys there.

Appreciate the thoughtful advice, guys! I do like the Carbon Flash metallic paint on the Centennial cars, which is what has me intrigued. I just don't know about the silly stripes. Like rado63 said... not sure if the swirl marks on vinyl can be restored. ??

If I buy one of these, it gets a forged motor and twin-turbos immediately.
