Fuel door release button stuck in the pushed in condition, which keeps unlatching the fuel door. Can the button retainer be safely removed by prying with a screw driver or does it need to be removed from behind the dash? Vette is 2010 GS convertible.
I did not jam it hard, just a normal push. I just bought the car and this is the first time opening the fuel door after the service dept at Carmax replaced the steering wheel position sensor. My thought is that they might of left out a spring from this switch, the button worked fine before taking it in, but only tried it once when checking out the car before I bought it.

Not sure I can help but this is an electrical switch button. it operates a solenoid that is located on the drivers side in the rear fender. The solenoid pulls a cable that releases the fuel door.
The catch that holds the fuel door closed is spring loaded and I can tell you that the spring can corrode and the door will not open. If you are mechanically inclined you should be able to replace the spring yourself. Do a search and you will find info on the fix.
I realize this does not address your problem with the button but wanted you to know about related issues with the fuel door.

I just got it to come out, looks like the spring inside the switch broke. Anybody else have this problem?

OK, got the switch apart, the inside of the switch should have two springs to push the switch back out whem pressed. No springs!?! How does this happen? It did not look like anybody took the switch apart and removed the springs and they did not fly out I could not see any inside through the holes on back of the switch like the other switch has before I removed the back. A complete mystery.
Does anybody know where i could find replacement springs or a new switch?
