Good morning to my all knowing corvette forum members. I am in the process of replacing my tires on my 05. They were old and worn and one had a leak that couldn't be repaired. So since I was putting it away for the winter I just bought 2 rears and will get the fronts in the spring. Now here's the question- I didn't research tires at all and just put on the same GY RF's it came with. After doing a little reading on here it seems to most that the goodyears are junk.{exspensive junk}.Its not a good idea to run two different brands is it? Should I just get 2 more GY's and then switch to michelin or non rf's when the time comes? Seems as though you can improve the vettes performance by going with different tires. Give me your thoughts on it. Thanks guys. Don
How many miles do you put on a year? If it was me, already having put GY's on the rear, I would go ahead and put the same tire on the fronts. Depending on how many miles you drive each year, they may last you several years. Really depends on your driving style, miles per year etc. If you are just a weekend driver when the weather is nice, and a trip now and then, you will be fine.
I will probably only put 4k -5k miles a year on. Strictly a good weather car. I drove it only about 100 miles with the new rears and it was a huge improvement as I guess it would be with any new tires. I dont have any real complaint about the GY'S but dont have anything to compare them to.
I also agree, Don. Get the same model, different sizes for fronts, and a four wheel alignment in the spring. You'll be fine. You can change all four tires years later when you need to make the change.

Don,
I had to replace my rear tires do to going thru an accident scene because I caught a piece of debris in the back drivers tire.
Once the rear tires were installed I went on a ride with 15 other Corvette owners and my car would slide out in the front and the traction control would come on making the car had to steer in corners and almost taking me into the retainer wall spraying rocks on the Corvette behind me.
After replacing the front tires that situation was remedied so if you install new rears tires and your computer takes over with the traction control replace the front tires. When this action happens it will make your body tense up and hold on for the ride. I never lost control but all the guys who followed me for about a week, until the new tires showed up, could not believe I was sliding out of the corners and having a hard time steering.
The old tires only had 14,559 miles on them and an I glad I had run flats!
This may not happen to you but if it does look into new front tires.
I bought a Lifetime Alignment from the local Firestone dealer. I will have an alignment every time I buy tires, any tires not necessarily Firestone. I think it was $199.
Thx for the input guys. I had the car completely aligned last March. Is another alignment necessary anytime you get new tires?
If you had it done last March, you should be ok. If your tire tread seems to be wearing un-evenly, or if you have hit pot holes etc, then it might make sense to do it again.
