what's going on?
I just replaced the shocks on my C 6 Corvette with some regular Blistein shocks. My car originally had the z51 package and I replaced the shocks with non magnetic ride shocks. Now my car flashes "shocks inoperable " and car shuts off at 80 mph. How do I bypass the system or fix it to drive normal again?

The Z51 option did not include magnetic ride shocks just a stiffer version of the standard shock with stiffer sway bars and bushings.
The magnetic ride option with the special magnetic shocks was F55. As was already stated there is a fix available to turn off the warnings when magnetic shocks are replaced with standard shocks.
Why did you change out the mag ride shocks? They are very dependable and it is rare that they fail.

I bought my car with after market shocks installed but suspension inop light always came on along with the do not exceed 80 mph light. I took the car to a chevy dealer told them what was goin on an a tech two programmer removed both warnings with his computer free of charge an took less then 5 mins to do. u might want to try that.

I tried doing that. The dealership says it's a liability issue and refused.

When i was shopping for a vette, i always refused to get one with the F55 package. It is great when the car is new but when you buy used with 60-70K there more then less will have to be changed out soon. I had a 99 C5 that had the magnetic ride, When the shocks started going out i got a quote on how much it was to change the magnetic shocks and it was 3K from the dealer (I lost it). I opted to just change them out for Z06 shocks, but that was a hassle cause of the reprogramming and having to find away around the shock sensor. I just ended up selling the whole car and getting a C6 (Without magnetic ride). Good luck, i would search the forum i know there are a lot of DIY things you can do with that.

I had a 2004 with the F55 option and got the leaky shocks replacement cost estimate. $1600 for the 2 front shocks. Replaced all 4 with the Z06 shocks and took the car to a mechanic with a TECH II and he programed the F55 option out of the computer and no more errors or limits. Total cost was $450 for all 4 shocks, labor to install and reprograming the computer. I got the shocks from Gene Culley.

wow unbelievable, I live in a small town an I knew the crapy dealership in my town a: wouldn't know how, or b: would tell me some crap like that. so I went on over to the big city an found a large dealership that had no problem doing the fix .
