Recently bought a really nice One Owner 2007 Coupe. After selling my 50th AE Coupe HAD to buy another Red Coupe (you know... TWO redVettez)
Figured HAD to go up a Generation. WOW there REALLY is a difference from The C5. Love the C6.. OK here is my question..
The C6 has 70K miles, But is darn near Perfect outside and in. The WEIRD
thing is, I have only found three small rock chips on the front.
BUT, the windshield looks like its been shot with Buckshot!! Does C6 by
Nature of design Miss the stones and/or other highway debris at the nose and Hood only to have the windshield become a sitting duck??
I have slightly less mileage than you have, and I've had 4 rock chips repaired on the windshield.
It appears that highway driving does indeed send small sand and other debris above the front bumper and directs that flow into the windshield.
My headlights were getting somewhat sandblasted as well. I recently put new lenses on my headlights. I didn't want to replace my windshield, that's why I had the chips repaired.

I bought an 07 back in October and had the same issue. Driving into the sun looked like sparkles covered the windshield and at times made it impossible to even see out of it. I never noticed it unless driving directly into the sun but then it was VERY noticeable. Sandblasted by all the sand on the east coast as it was primarily driven in Virginia Beach and eastern NC. I went ahead and had the windshield replaced at Safelite and it is now perfect. Not expensive at all either, $280 total cost. So much happier now that I can see.
If it's sandblasted as per the other members comments, then windshield replacement is the only option.
My windshield isn't to that point yet. The rock chips that were repaired are seamless, and are not really noticeable unless you know exactly where they are. The auto glass places use the Novis method of repairing with epoxy and ultraviolet light.
It's totally up to you if you want a windshield replacement or not.
I find tht the area that gets the most rock chips are the side mirrors.
My 2012 with less than 15k miles already has dozens of tiny windshield dings that I only see when the sun hits it at a certain angle and a couple of them that are a little worse that you can actually see from outside....but the front bumper looks good...weird....and I'll agree that for some reason the mirrors take allot of abuse....I have one nice size chip in the stalk that holds the mirror on both sides(all the way thru the paint, 1/8 or more of black primer I guess, showing thru that I need to touch up)

I'm curious, why didn't you simply use your Comprehensive coverage, and have your insurance carrier pay for the windshield?
In most states, even if your Comprehensive coverage contains a deductible, it is waived for glass replacement.
my 07 is sandblasted at 62k miles but I take my car on long highway trips all over the place - I have had one stone chip repair but there are many small ones that are visible from several feet away - i am considering changing mine as when I detail the car the stone chips stick out in my opinion

Use your insurance to replace it. You'll feel good about recovering some of your premium payments.

Not in NC, at least not through Farm Bureau Ins. Quote from their website "No, your deductible is not waived on a glass replacement claim. In North Carolina, glass replacement falls under your comprehensive coverage. If you carry a deductible on your comprehensive coverage, your deductible will apply."

That's why I said, "In most states...", as I know there are some that do not waive the deductible.
Well, here's a suggestion.
On many policies from reputable carriers, there is very little difference in premium between a $100 Comp. deductible, and a $250, or even $500.
I have a $100 Comp. deductible with GEICO, and when I asked how much I'd save with a $250 Ded. I was told $7.00 on a 6 month policy, so I stayed with the $100 Ded.
Just a thought.
Here in MO a windshield repair is free through insurance, not sure about replacement. I imagine if the damage was enough they'd go read and waive the deductible as well.
You'd think insurance carriers would rather replace a windshield than cover a wreck due to poor visibility.
Mine has several pits in it also. Not bad enough for the insurance to pay, and not big enough to fill. I'm fine with it. Figure if I'm going to enjoy the car it's going to get some scars along the way.
Windshields and chips seems to be very prevalent these days.... had a brand new 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee....in the very first year took a rock hit on the interstate ....replaced the windshield, had a 2013 Benz , in the first 3 months , took a stone chip in the windshield....had it replaced, have a 2014 Ford Fusion.....first year, took a stone chip, had the windshield replaced.....my 2012 GS, no hits YET!!!! All that being said.....i don't remember windshield issues with my 60's, 70's and 80's vehicles.....are the windshields softer now???

Windshields are the same, the stones have increased.
