Speaker replacement
You could have said, I tried Polk speakers once and didn't like them.
Or, I had Polk xxx.x speakers, and they performed poorly, so I don't use Polk anymore.
Instead you make this broad statement, "Polk is pure garbage".
I reacted as I did, because Polk makes some very good speakers, and enjoys a fine reputation in the speaker industry.
I've been building home audio systems since the late 60s, and home theater systems since the mid 90s.
I've used Altec Lansing, University, Bose, JBL, Boston Acoustics, Martin Logan, Infinity, and others.
However, I've achieved some of my favorite sounds with Polk systems.
In fact my current home theater system, is all Polk, except for the Sub-Woofer which is Klipsch.
You used a very broad brush there Billy. Everyone's perception of what constitutes good sound is different.
That's why there's so many different speakers to choose from.
I think a good quality set of Pioneers are better than Carver.
i live with the fact that bose speakers are what chevrolet decided to use in their corvettes and thats fine by me. and besides, isn't there a seperate thread on audio? and the same goes about the nav. system. i bought my car for the elegant beauty and the fine lines it has, plus the reputation for being america's sports car. one of the best engines on the market and we have guys crying about speakers and navigation systems.
ok, my rant time has expired, thank you very much.

With a coupe you can put a sub or two in the rear hatch area and have it resonate throughout the cabin. In a vert the sub is isolated by two partitions and the folded up top, and the result is a distant quaking of body panels that doesn't really cut it for me. (see Hameister's quote below).
Putting the sub(s) directly behind the seat is the only viable location IMO but the only retail option I know of for this is the JL Audio Stealthbox setup. A valiant effort but with the small enclosure volume available in the limited space and the 8" subs, there just isn't enough low end extension for my taste.
A variation of the custom install in the pics is what I would want to try to execute (but probably without the amp rack/enclosure) as this speaker 'box' would provide enough internal volume to accommodate two 10" speakers. The rest would be easy, but this part requires some very special skills.
Everyone's frame of reference is unique and many may not know, nor care, what they are missing.
I'm very fortunate in that I've had decades of providing 'sound' in one form or another to millions of people. Most of the reviews have been positive (certainly not all of them though LOL) and that's provided me the opportunity to help people wade through the minefield of sound system design.
A daunting task in many cases and unfortunately, a perfect solution for everyone is pretty much impossible.

Once you add some engine noise, not quite so good.
Driving 30 mph, rather poor.
Driving 75 mph, awful. The engine/tire/wind noise completely overwhelms the system.
Adding sound insulation might be the better technique, but I've heard so many contradictory stories about how that works, I'd hesitate.
I tried the Blockit mats in our coupe, the trunk mat didn't seem to do anything according to my ears or my iphone decibel meter, the small pads behind the seat seemed to help just a little.

I've always said they're not the best, but I'm fine with them. I didn't buy a 'vette for it's speakers, or Navigation unit.

They are behind the original mesh screens and look totally factory, until you hear the sound that is!

This is also an option, but not sure if compatible (says C6):

Anyway, the bose navi in my 2011 sounds ok. yeah the highs are rolled off too early, there is no soundstage, there is no transparency; but it is a bose. Want to hear bad audio, check out the delco in my 76. Worse, check out the standard stereo in my chrysler 200 work vehicle. the bose navi all of sudden sounds good... just not in the same class as the lexus levinson or the benz 5.1 harman kadon

They put the 650's in place of the subs in the doors.... and man this system sounds awesome...
These speakers really need to have power added to them to get the full potential out of them,..... I originally just did 2- C2 350X 3.5" Coax Speakers 2- C2 525X 5.25" Coax Speakers and it sounded ok, but once the amp was added man did they wake up......
Yes it was a little more than I wanted to pay, but my music is important to me and worth it
