I had to sell my 69 L36 427/390h.p. numbers matching coupe at auction about three and a half years ago to continue eating and paying the mortgage. I've sorted things out since and, yesterday afternoon I bought a 2009 1LT Victory Red coupe. This one is an automatic, but the modern automatics are as good as a manual transmission on the drag strip anyway. You do lose some of the value of downshifting on a road course, though, I suppose. It had 25,855 miles on it and I paid $28,500 for it, which is, oddly, the disappointing amount of the net proceeds of the sale of my 69 at auction in Monterey, CA back three years ago. Man, is this one refined vehicle compared to my 69. I didn't figure it would impress me as much as it has since I also own, for the time being, an LS1 powered Camaro Z28. Boy was I wrong. The LS3 in the lighter Vette is awe inspiring. I thought the Z28 was pretty quick (13.44 @ 107.43mph in the quarter) but I'm guessing this Vette is a high 12 second car all day long. I probably won't even miss the Corvette Hot Foot that the C3 was always good for on long road trips. Looking forward to becoming part of the Corvette community again.
