I'll try to keep this short. My warranty was almost up and I brought my car in for 3 things: low beam light recall, my steering wheel has a little play in and out, and the convertible waterfall hits the top when opening/closing. He fixed the headlight, says there's nothing wrong with the steering wheel and ended up making the waterfall worse and scratched the back of the car while he was at it. Unfortunately the fantastic mechanic who used to work there apparently is no longer there. Anyway, first time out driving since I got it fixed yesterday and after a car cut me off I found out my horn doesn't work. It really pissed me off. I did some basic checks, the wires look good, when you hit the horn you don't hear anything, not even the relay. I switched relays and still nothing but I know that relay works. The fuse is also good. Any thoughts? My warranty is now expired, but I'm not sure that I trust the dealer now, and also not sure if they broke it. I'm thinking the issue has to do with the steering wheel, but I really don't know if he ever went in there.
you can try and bring it back to the dealership on good faith and tell them this all was working before you drove off with the car and see what they can do.

I already called the dealer and left a message, but if possible, I'd like to resolve this on my own as they've been nothing but trouble so far.
Sounds to me like they took the steering wheel apart looking for a problem, couldn't figure it out, put it back together and left a wire disconnected.
So I just got a call back from the dealer. They're saying they didn't touch anything with the horn and that they didn't touch the steering wheel. On top of that the warranty has expired. I have to say, I never thought I'd care about a horn, but it's sort of nerve-racking thinking you can't warn an idiot about to run into you. I'm not really sure how to proceed.
If they didn't touch the steering wheel how do they know there is nothing wrong with it? Sounds fishy. Does it still have the play in and out like it did when you took it in?

Yes, the play is exactly the same. Another test I did was hit the panic button on the key fob. The lights flash, but no sound, and I don't hear the relay click at all either. Does anyone know what the circuit looks like? Is there a direct hardwire from the steering wheel to the relay or is there something in between? I'd find it odd that the panic wouldn't work either.
I'm still thinking fuse...did you actually check the fuse with a meter? Sometimes they look good but are actually bad.
Yeah, I didn't check it with a meter, but switched it with another fuse. I'll check again. If I were to check voltages where would I check to validate power is actually getting to the relay/fuse?
Since the panic button doesn't work I'm thinking something screwed up in the under-hood fuse box as well since they did have it apart doing the headlight thing.

I agree with EVRose.
You say you changed the Micro relay (#34) in the under hood fuse box? Try removing the micro relay and plug in a meter while someone honks the horn. Is voltage present to trip the relay?
Gotta be related to the removal of the under hood fuse box.

Sort of what I was thinking. I'll see if I can get it apart and see what's going on under there.
I missed the idea of them taking the fuse box apart...that certainly is the most likely place to start looking. But if they took it apart, and they had to, then they should be the ones checking for a solution to the horn problem. If the panic button doesn't honk the horn, then it's not the steering wheel button that is involved. The panic button gets the computer to honk the horn, so the steering wheel button is not part of the process. If you switched the fuse with another one, then you have done that correctly.

Even if you get the horn fixed, you still will have the play in the steering and the waterfall problems. Is there another Chevy dealer in your area you can trust, or do you know where the top mechanic went? It seems like if you have documentation that you had these problems before the warranty expired, Chevy customer service should help you. I can understand your not wanting to go back to the same dealer.

So I sent you a PM yesterday. Haven't heard anything back. Honestly, I'm not sure I want GM touching my car at this point. I was able to fix it and it WAS the dealers fault. I found a piece of clipped wire in the fuse box and the jumper wire they ran was pinched by the junction connection. Once I fixed that everything started working. What I would like to do is complain to someone from GM about the dealership. They used to be great, but have gone down significantly and they refuse to take any ownership over their own mistakes. Their Corvette mechanic now sucks and doesn't take care of peoples cars like the old one did. Honestly, I don't know if I'll ever take a car to them again that's how bad this experience was.
