I have an 09 coupe with 22k. Changing tires but don't know which ones are good. Is there much of difference in ride quality between run flats vs. regular. I live in I live in Central Fl. so thinking Summer tires? Wondering what is tire of choice to replace stock and if that is advisable.
I have an 09 and I kept the GY Run Flats on it. The ride is different from one of my buddies car 06 with Nitto's on it. If you go to the search bar and type in tires you will or should find an abundance of tire threads here.
I live 45 mile or so from anyone who carry's the tires I would need and the two mountain towns I am near do **** poor work and do not stand behind what they do so I need/prefer to have the run flats to get to where I would need to go provided it happens locally. The people I roll with also have a number of different reasons for what they run on their cars but after having waited for a tow truck for 2 hours on the side of the road I will continue to sacrifice my ride for a, well hopefully a piece of mind I can make it to a saver place or tire shop during my travels if it happens again.
22K on my 09 and I had accident debris go thru my tire and my insurance/warranty company paid for my replacement and I got the other three tires. Yup they did pay.
Everyone likes something different. I just put Michelin's on the GS. Much better ride than the GY. I've always been a big Michelin fan so I guess it stands to reason. Do your research. I got the dealer to price match which helped as well.
There are more tire threads on this forem than anything else I think. Just search tire and you can spend days reading the Run Flat vs Non Run Flat debate. Bottom line RF gives a sense of security with a ride (subjective) and tire life trade off compared to the NRF.
I went with Michelin Pilot Super Sport NRF and am very pleased.
RF vs non RF is a comfort decision, both emotionally and physically.
I hear RF's have improved regarding ride comfort. The stock GY's are terrible.
I went with the Bridgstone S0-4 Pole Setters a non RF max summer tire. With 10 other tires in it's catorgory it came in at a solid all around second place. For me $866 out the door in narrow body size.
Quite with a nice ride with excellent handling in wet and dry giving a solid feed back to the driver to the edge, predictable in other words.
The first place Michlein was a better rated tire and costing many hundreds more.
Look up some different tire test either through Tire Rack or Car and Driver for some good informational reading.
Remember grip comes at the expense of longivity. Determine what your needs are realistically. Taking thses cars to the limit with a soft tire on the street is a little ambitious. Hence the S0-4 with excellent grip and being predictable to the limit at a good price was my choice

Michelin Run Flats ride great. From GY to Michelin night and day. No need to worry about getting stranded with a flat. Tires Plus here had the best price and did not charge extra for run flat mounting.
Thanks for the info. I will try to "Deal" with the dealership on tires.
Do you have an extended warranty,GMPP, that covered that tire? Mine will run out in Sept. Thinking about extending that through Fitchner again

Go independent shop on the tires, and get the the road warranty with them. Going through the dealer will end up costing you hundreds more instead.
As for the top tier summer performance tires for street use, that would have to be super sport ZF. They are run flats, and are safe to drive in the rain as well (not like a mad man though). The front tires are wear warrantied for 30K, while the back will be for 15K.
If you are looking for an even stickier tire on a budget, then some thing like the Kumbo XS's can be had for $1K for all 4, but they are not run flats, do not have a wear life warranty (will wear out a lot faster), and lets face it, the roads get wet, and you will sitting on the side of the road until it dries out again.
I live in NE Florida,, the stock tires are terrible in the rain, lots of rain in Floirda.. I have a 2011 daily driver,, on my third set of tires.. Stuck with run flats both changes, first set: Michelin pilot sport, not quite as good on hot dry pavement as the stock good years, but 100% better on rain, current set: Bridgestone Potenza RE960,, about the same as the Michelin on dry pavement but even better in the rain.. Got 30K miles out of the Michelins, looks like I should get even more than that with the Bridgestones. I would say you can't go wrong with either.

I also went with Michelin Pilot Super Sports in non-run flat. I have a 2013 GS and after slapping the Michelins on the car I was more than pleased with the decrease in road noise, the car stopped darting on grooved roads and the traction also much improved over the Goodyear trash that came on them. Just my $.02 but I am very happy with Michelin

Riding back from Daytona, on US92, speed limit 65, yesterday. Concrete surface and it was raining hard. Was doing speed limit when I hit some small surface depressions... I started hydroplaning. Even slowing down I had a less than confidence inspiring ride home. Stock tires, just above wear-bars, garage kept so there is no rot/cracks. Think this is characteristic of Good Year stock tires or what? Can you remember the last time you hydroplaned?

I just had Michelin PS2 s mounted and had an alignment done. My GY F1s were shot along the inside of all 4 tires at 11,000 miles. No more darting around over ruts in the road, quieter ride, more predictable handling, less tire slip at stop oights, and the tires were $500 a set cheaper.

Same here, 10,000 miles and the good years were shot! ..it's amazing that on a $65,000 car they put such garboge tires!
Any summer tire but Good Year RF's will be a big improvement on ride, noise levels and wet weather traction.
My GY F1 Supercar tires got very dangerous on wet pavement at 11K miles. I decided on Firestone WO Indy 500's Non Runflats, and I am now on my 2nd set of those. Love the smooth quiet ride, and great wet road traction. My first set of stones went 30K miles on many long and often wet road trips.
