Default Bubbles in Ceramic Coated Headers

Hey guys and gals,

I am having some talks to one of our members about buying a set of used headers. The headers are Kooks and were ceramic coated. They seem to have bubbling happening at the collectors and the turndowns from the engine ports. is this normal that occurs with time and use?? or was the coating done incorrectly??
It also has some marks kinda like the same that the stainless steel would get that you can see tru the coating.
I was thinking if I do buy them, I could have them recoated or use engine paint/BBQ paint/Hi Temp coating for exhaust and we spray them Satin Black on my own to hide all the imperfections.

Just want to know if the bubbling is normal or what no. it is really good deal so I dont want to pass on it unless its not bueno.

not normal
I would suspect underlying contamination before they where coated.
Until the underlying contamination is taken care of anything you put on top will achieve the same results.

Would be suspect on the coating is really ceramic, or just some paint instead (read standard paint has no thermo protection).

Also, the headers needs to be grit blasted to first leave a finish on the headers so the coating can bond to it, and before the ceramic coating is applied, the headers need to be degrease'd (solvent or baked).

A this point, sounds like bubba bought a set of headers, then lite them up with a spray can of some sort of coating.

So if you can buy the used headers cheap enough to send them out to be ceramic coated correctly, then may be work the money, or maybe cheaper to just buy a set of new ceramic coated heaters instead t begin with.

Again, a real ceramic coating on the headers correctly applied will keep the headers from radiating a ton of heat into the engine bay, where just spraying them with something like barque paint does nothing instead.

Well. the headers are Kooks. I was thinking getting them and having them recoated professionally. That would be the best I think. The price is a really good deal for it in my opinion since it includes the catted X pipe.

You can always go with the drag racing look and wrap them! Keeps the heat down as well.

This is true.. I guess there are lots of options. I guess I'll be pulling he trigger. Worse come to worse, I have it redone professionally or wrap them like you mention..
