A few days ago I posted about my drivers door gradually deteriorating to the point where it completely stopped working. The red light in the door comes on and the window moves (sometimes) but the latch does not engage.
I took out the pad from passenger door and switched them with no result. Then I took out the latch assembly but did not see anything visually wrong. Then I tried switching the latch assembly from the passenger side only to find out that the latches don't match unlike the pads in the door. I think my fob is ok, it opens the trunk, the red light comes on.....the window and the mirrors work fine so again that is the reason I think latch is the issue.
Finally today before going to the dealer I decided to switch the door touch pads one more time to be 100 sure before I spend 200$ on a new latch assembly. Well after swapping the pads now neither door opens!!!! and the passenger door is completely locked. The lever does not open either!!! Any advice on how to unlock my passenger door and what could possibly be the issue with the drivers one?
Thank you I appreciate any advice: cheers:
It sounds like you did something wrong when you re-installed the latch if the lever does not open the door. Try pulling the lever and bumping the door at the same time.

you are right, after taking the passenger side B pillar off and taking the cover from the latch assembly (while it was still in the door!) like a contortionist I was able to reach the latch and open the door So now the passenger door is fine and I am back to my original issue-the drivers door. I bought the touch pad from chevy dealer for 20$ and installed it but that did not make any difference. The dealer quoted me 240 for latch assembly and was kind of surprised to hear that I thought the latch was the problem. Too bad I can not test it by switching the passenger latch to confirm that it is in fact the latch/solenoid. The latches are not interchangeable unlike the touch pads. I feel like it is personal now and don't want to give up taking the vette to a dealer. I want to get to the bottom of it and fix it myself. Any other advices for me?!
You can check the current at the latch unit with a meter and see if you are getting it when you squeeze the door pad. A 12v test light would probably do it also. If you can hear the latch trying, but not opening, this is a pretty good test.
