Default Oil filters......ACDelco PF48 vs PF48E ???

So I went to Wally world today to get my yearly oil change supplies and notice all they have for filters now is PF48E. Does anyone know what the E stands for and if they still make the regular PF48 anymore?

Default oil filters 2008 C6

Hi, I just returned from a 2300 mile trip in my 2008 C6 I bought at the end of 2014. Anyways, I changed oil today and the filter I removed was a PF48E. Bought car at a Chevy dealer and they said they just changed the oil (Dec 2014). That went in the trash and I installed a Mobil 1 filter (M1-113) oil filter. Noticed at Advanced Auto all they had on shelf was PF48E also.

Thanks, looks like the PF48 is discontinued and replaced with the 48E. Not sure I like that plastic core, I may look at getting a Mobil 1 filter also.

I have been using M 1 gold filter since 2007. It is a good filter. Kind of pricey but worth it.

Another +1 for the Mobil 1 M1-113 filter. It will cost you a couple bucks extra, but well worth I think.

The PF48E primary performance improvement relates to the relief valve design. The PF48E has a compression spring loaded nylon poppet that outperforms the current valve design.

Other benefits:
•Element integrity (collapse strength) is increased by 25%. This is because the nylon cores are perfectly round.
•Filter media, which is unchanged, is no longer potted in adhesive which blocks filtration area at each end.
•Filtration performance (efficiency and capacity) are both unchanged.
•The filter shell configuration is unchanged. Existing cap wrenches continue to fit.
•Hydrostatic burst and impulse fatigue performance are both unchanged.
•Relief valve performance is much improved and statistically more stable.
•Hot oil durability is improved by elimination of adhesive.
•Cold weather performance (-30 C) with dexos 1 oil is excellent.
•Improved level of robustness to water accumulation.
•Nitrile material used in the sealing gasket and the anti-drainback valve is unchanged.
•PF48E filters meet performance specifications as defined by GM Powertrain.
•PF48E filters will be used in OE production in the near future.

Do you recommend the PF48E over the Mobil 1 M1-113 filter?

I do not know enough about the Mobil 1 filter to recommend one over the other but I have been using the PF-48E in my C6 since it became available.

From everything I have read it was an improvement in a number of ways over the PF-48 but mainly it has a more dependable relief valve and a much stronger filter core.

Personally, I would avoid the E core Frams...

A good alternate is the Fram Ultra series...The vette uses XG10060... get them at Amazon for under $9.00...
Great filter for extended OCI's... all synthetic and built very well..

i think we're being a little bit foolish not accepting something we're not familiar with. i fully believe that chevrolet would never use any product if it were bad for any of their models. some plastics are well known for their durability over quite a few products that had been made with metal. we use plastic products everyday in our homes, storing foods in them to keep fresh. if it's good enough for my food, it's good enough for my engine.

I use the Mobil 1 filter also. A little spendy, but then I only change the oil once a year.

Absolutely no reason at all, unless you just like throwing money away.

When I look up the Mobil 1 for my LS2, its an M1-107, not an M1-113.

The M1-107 is $6.95 on Amazon + free shipping if the order is over $35
