The part of this that would bother me most is a friend lying to me about the electric bill. We all know that is BS. Some "friend"

I've been in the electric utility business for 34 years. No way. Your friend is just probably not knowledgeable enough to understand that they have something else causing bill to go up......heat pump, small heater in bath or elsewhere, water heater problem, etc. I see it all the time. I have a battery tender and I'd be surprised if it adds more than a few dollars a month. Don't trash your friendship over a few hundred dollars though unless they are truly trying to take advantage of you. Good luck.

Some friend to offer storage, and then try to gouge you for $100 a month. Now, if that was negotiated before hand OK, but not this way. However, I would try to make that friend happy, and then make them my ex.

There's little difference in my electric bill with the tender hooked up.

I dunno, maybe I'm more cynical than the rest of you guys, but I don't believe for a second that the OP's friend honestly thought her electric bill went up $100 a month.

If I believed that, I'd also have to believe that Obama didn't know he was lying when he said, ..."if you like your plan, you can keep your plan."

Nope, that "friend", just decided over the winter that she was being used.
Perhaps someone was telling her she was entitled to rent, and it cranked her up.
So when it came time to remove the car, she comes up with this ridiculous electric bill story.

I don't disagree with you at all Hammy. I'm just one of those folks that would settle up some way, and move on after canceling this person friend card. Then chalk the whole thing up to a cheap lesson learned.

There is NO WAY a Battery Tender will increase the electricity bill that much. I have been using a Deltran Battery Tender on my vehicles for 15 years and NEVER notice a surge in charge like the one you describe. And I am using two Battery Tenders.

For the record, this lady has been a family friend since I was a toddler and I did give her $100 a month for 6 months, in advance.

I don't feel she's trying to gouge me but she did inform me the $$ for the "rent" just covered the additional electric costs and she's not wanting additional $$ for "rent."

Allan, does that sound reasonable to you?

If she's an older lady then this "mistake" might be blamed on "senior-itis", if not I'd find a new friend! Just my .02...

Elec rates went up about 37% in may area last yr. Don't know about where you are, But if it were me I'd give her $500 and find another spot next winter. No hard feelings. When her elec bill is the same next winter she will realize she was wrong and be out the extra $100 a month. I just retired after 36 yrs from a gas/elec utility co. Believe me it just isn't worth trying to get through to her. I wish I got 5 bucks for every meter that was needlessly changed for similar reasons.

Nah.....shes just using you as an excuse to use her stuff more...curling irons.....hair dryers...."TOYS"....etc....etc. And if shes got electric heat she probably bumped up the thermostat a few degrees all winter.....LOL.

You make an excellent point.
If she's an elderly lady, who knows what might be going through her mind.

I remember my mom, may she rest in peace, every time she misplaced something, she'd accuse someone of stealing it.
She was in her late 80s during that period, and it was rough on everyone.

Yep...and unfortunately, we're all gonna get there some day and it will affect some of us worse then others. My Mom is in a nursing home, sometimes I'll go to visit and she'll tell me to go the hell home (her exact words, LOL), other times it's just like the old days...God Bless your Mom in Heaven!

I have 3 Battery Tenders running all the time (lawn mower, Corvette, and a boat battery) and my bill isn't any higher than it was before that I can tell. I don't understand what your friend could be talking about saying the Battery Tender on your car caused her bill to go up $100 a month. The Battery Tenders only kick in when the battery needs a boost to stay fully charged so they don't run all the time and when they do run they only pull a small amount of power.

Her electric bill was probably $100 higher than normal because of an extra cold winter in central Ohio.
