Finally heading to the property today for the first time since the cold snap and snow hit. I hope to find things OK, needless to say. I always turn the water off before I leave, and as I have mentioned several times I have a 75W light bulb on under the sink area. Heat is left on at lowest setting, which is 55°. I expect a whopper of an electric bill with 2 weeks of 0° temperatures and a forced air electric furnace. My main purpose is to walk the 47 acres and identify all of the main deer travel corridors (the snow makes it easy), especially those in the wooded sections, and find good places to put up new deer stands.
Today is going to be another one of those long days. Awake at 3:45 and out of bed at 4:15.

C6 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
Well we start the thaw today. High is supposed to be 37. Then a little warmer each day all the way up to 70 by Thursday. From -1 to 70 in a week.
I personally like it in the 70's.
Don't like negative numbers at all.
Hope to see my new to me C7 soon.

Hey way, about 20 years ago we were at 68 one day and 24 hours later it was -8 a 76 degree difference......we lost a lot of trees and outdoor plants that year.

I'm hoping I don't lose my Palm trees, but suspect I will. They do great during our normal winter but fear it got too cold for them this time.
Hope there are no water lines busted either. Think I may be lucky on that.
Will have to keep a watchful eye on them.

The thaw might be starting. I saw 31° at the property yesterday, and it's a balmy 9° this morning. Today's forecast high is 40°, yee haw! It was sunny with no wind yesterday so there was a lot of snow melt and settling. I was crunching through a thick crusty layer this morning when I put the ear of corn on the squirrel feeder. It's time for this crap to go away and for Spring to arrive! The male cardinals were singing this morning like they think it has already arrived. The females aren't showing any inclination of interest yet.
