How hard is it to change the water pump on an LS2 engine in a 07' C6?
I'm getting a slight odor of coolant and nothing seems to leaking, so, I thought it might be coming from the weep hole in the pump.
Am also waiting to see what the smell means. I do not want the hood liner destroyed so am really after the water pump. I asked the dealer person (service writer) and he said watch at the bottom of the pump for corrison belying a drip.....don't know how far this goes before I can have it replaced......
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I've got the smell, but, no leaks anywhere and I've heard that the pump hole seaping can be a sign of it going bad.
I've worked on a lot of SB Chevys in the past, but, never an all aluminum block with such a tight space. I guess if I have to do it, I tackle it.
Just changed mine on a 2006 LS2. It was not bad at all. Got the pump from Rock Auto for $101 plus $8 shipping and no core charge or need to return old pump. Reach under the pump above the harmonic balance and see if it wet. If it is, antifreeze is leaking out. When you add fresh antifreeze disconnect the top small hose that goes to the holding tank and blow into it after filling it up and putting the cap on. this forces the fluid into the engine. I also like to drill a 1/8 hole in the thermostat to help eliminate air lock.
Good luck. Much easier than the old chevys as there are no brackets to remove.

The water pump gasket O ring can separate from the gasket itself over time and cause the same issue. I have replaced many water pumps on LS engines because of this. If the pump is already off then just replace it...
