Very easy to do it yourself. That's what I do.

I do it myself as well, but unless the dealer offers free oil changes, I'd stay out of there.

My Certified pre-owned 2012 came with 2 years of free oil changes, and I will still change my own. I have had the car about 3 months, and have already put 4k miles on it. The dealer I bought it from changed the oil and filter and the filter was on so tight it flattened out the gasket and it was mushroomed, and the bolt was on so tight I had to use a breaker bar. I am amazed it wasn't damaged.

PLUS - when I first got it home after buying the car, I found it had an extra quart of oil in it.

No thank you!

Perfect example of why everyone who is able should do it themselves.

I have to agree, I over thought it, its a car,its a little different, I have a Z, but I just bought everything i needed, and buying a torque wrench to make sure I don't overtighten the drain plugs or filter. (That would be my luck)

With 76,000+ on my 06 I've never had a problem with dealers changing the oil and filter. Of course I discuss at length what I expect from them and so far, no worries whatsoever.

Yep, I have murphy`s law on my side. Now if you owned a white Vette instead of a red one your luck may change

I had two years free oil changes too and let the dealer do it. And they never screwed anything up to my knowledge.

My two years are up so I'm going to take it to Express Lube, just down the street. The advantage is that you can stay right with the car and watch what they're doing. The crew at my location are very careful. Plus, they pour Mobil 1 right from the bottle, so you know you're getting the right oil. After a start to check for oil leaks, you turn the engine off, let it sit for a minute, then they show you the dipstick so you know it's not over- or under-filled. Cost is about $80 for Mobile 1 and a Valvoline filter. Could take your own filter I suppose if you wanted a particular brand. Yes, it costs more than doing it yourself, but those years are behind me now.

Will get my 3rd free change this Sep, then I'll do it myself as I've done on every car I've owned. Know it's done correctly, no over tightened filter or loose drain plug. Dealer has been fine, but I'll use full synthetic.

I don't understand your last sentence. I always use synthetic oil as I instruct my dealer to do. Doesn't anyone tell the dealer what type of service is wanted?

You shouldn't have to instruct your dealer as to what kind of oil the car takes. If the dealer doesn't know, that would be my que to get out!

Default How often

I've used Mobil1 in all my cars the last 10 years, change at 10,000 miles, never any problems, oil is barely starting to darken, I always use OEM filters.
