Had covers on my 95 Camaro many years ago, NY state trooper pulled me over, for that and no front plate. Let me get a warning for the front plate. Still was a $75 ticket for the covers that was back in the late 90's, probably more now.
we are taking a run down into New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia are the black covers legal legal in all states?
I know VA will pull you over for them. Although I never got pulled over when I had them on my 07. I took them off but won't be putting them on my 13 GS. Not worth taking the risk IMO
No problem they are tough to get off without a little heat. I tried it the same way you did and got no where. Once I put the hair dryer on them popped right off.
I would get some oem red ones for inspection and trips that way you can just pop them in when you need em. Cost about 100 bucks if you shop around and take you like 5 minutes to exchange out.
Wondering out loud here, don't the black outs diminish your brake lights not to mention other times when your lights are on????
If you were to get rear ended would that be an insurance disallow for claims???
I want my lights as BRIGHT AS POSSIBLE
NSF

Mine are painted but are LEDs so they are brighter than stock. No problem passing inspection.
When driving thru an area known for stopping cars with tinted lights I just turn on the lights. No problems.

The black out overlays have been proven over and over again to emit plenty of light.
Mine are professionally /painted but only a blind fool would miss em when they came on. I also have the brightest white light bulbs to help em. In the night it is just as obvious as the red and cant be missed....
I have ran with blacked out lights on my cars for over 10 years now and never had a problem....

I have removed the overlays for now as I prefer not to give an officer a reason to stop and write me up on our trip to the states. The heat gun idea worked well and even the tape is still intact if i want to put them back on at a later day, they do look better, although i have been told the on a sunny day they make it harder to see the brake lights. Thanks for the heat gun idea Get_UmJ13 ....
