I had a plug wire come loose while driving and the engine and traction control light responded accordingly. Wire's reconnected but engine light stays on. Can it be turned off without tools or is a shop visit necessary? Thanks people.

Let us know if disconnecting the battery works. It should not. Codes would have much less diagnostic value if they disappeared just because power was lost. Disconnecting the battery was the way you reset them 30 years ago but not today.
Once an issue is fixed the light and codes will reset themselves after a given number of tests are passed. If you have really fixed the issue you can just ignore it for a few dozen cold starts and the light will go away on its own. If it doesn't go away on its own then you haven't resolved the issue and no amount of disconnecting the battery is going to fix a loose plug wire.
