I am adding insulation to my 2006 Coupe with factory installed XM/NAV radio. This device is in the structure that houses the fuse panel in the passenger footwell at the firewall. The device is in the lower left of the panel. It is secured with double sided tape. It has two wires attached. One wire is for an antenna that is glued to the interior side of the passenger door rocker and is concealed by carpet and the plastic rocker trim. The antenna is a straight stubby wire with a plastic cap on the end, I didn't take a picture of it and have reinstalled the carpet at this point. The second wire goes to the front of the passenger door opening and is concealed by carpet and the right kick panel. The red lead joins a black wire and is soldered together with a wrap of electrical tape. The black lead joins a black wire in the same manner. The connection is odd to me since it doesn't look like something the factory would do. But I am no expert.
IMETRIK LOCATE S VEHICLE GPS TRACKING DEVICE RECOVERY SYSTEM FCC IDILJU-03U
I assume you bought the car used somewhere, and previous owner added it... or your spouse!!! (lol)
So, is the previous owner going to come get it someday? I would probably be contacting the company that sells these to see what I can do to reassign it - that or remove it.

Remove it. It is a Lojack type device as some others have said. If you want a tracking system reassigning the existing is just as expensive as getting a new system. At least when I looked into it about 10 years ago.
I actually know of a small private car dealership in NY that sold a Corvette and part of the terms from the finance company was that one of the locators be placed into the vehicle before the loan would go through.

Is there a way to have your car scanned to see if there is one on the car? It got me thinking 'cause a guy I work with does private investigating work on the side and told me he had put listening devices in his gf's car and apartment. Isn't love great?
She's everywhere, she's everywhere ... just like Chicken Man only more progressive.
That's SUPERCHICKEN ("when you find yourself in danger, when you're threatened by a stranger, when it looks like you will take a lickin'"). God the useless crap I know........I think......

Trust issues? I would say that when she finds out, she will kick him out if she is very smart. Hopefully, she will have a case for invasion of privacy.
