So I purchesed my 427 vert about 2 months ago and between vacation and work, haven't really driven it much except around town. The car had 2800 miles and now 3200 after a 150 mile round trip yesterday down South.
Car ran perfect; top down/ warm day. After arriving home and approximately 2 hours later decided to go fill it up. ( here in Ohio you never know when they'll raise the gas 30 cents a gal). Engine check light noticed while driving to the station. (before getting gas just under half a tank left). Filled it; careful to put the gas cap on correctly (was it loose when I took it off? Might have been???)
Light never went out for drive home. (about a mile or so) Started up late last night, still on.
Have a appointment at the dealer Tuesday. Thoughts?
If the gas cap was the issue it takes about 50 miles of driving for the CEL to go out. You can get the codes read/cleared for free at Autozone and maybe some other auto parts stores.
The time I had a loose gas cap and a CEL I also had a message on the DIC to check gas cap. I found that it was best to not push on the cap while tightening but pull out when it clicks and have had no more problems. The light went out after a few start cycles.
I checked with OnStar- She told me the diagnostic test showed all normal. She mentioned the gas cap could have caused.
All wires ect..... seem fine. My 4th C6 and actually never seen that light come on b4. At least it doesn't sound like anything major. Car has warranty of course but just hate to run across issues.
Sometimes the electronics in our cars act funny. I have had 2 CELs and both cleared up with 2 quick start stop cycles. CEL is for emissions related problems only so your car won't self destruct. Lol

A solid CEL usually is, if it starts blinking, it's usually something serious (even if the fix is simple) that could potentially cause damage if ignored.
And this adapter, or one like it.

I know there used to be a Torque app for iPhones a while back
Mineicame on yesterday for the first time. It's my third time pumping gas too. I did push the gas cap. I then did the above method, I hope it solves the problem. Thank y'all kindly.
yep, will scan and give you both new and history codes for check engine (not airbag codes) and will let you clear them.
It will also tell you if and what engine monitors are "ready" or not. Which is very nice if you have state inspections that hook up the a computer. So you know before going for the inspection if it will pass or not.
