Default Michelin Tires Availability

Hi Rocket Riders !!!
I have a 2013 427 vert with the ZR1 Wheels. I had a flat by a hunk of metal that the boys at Discount Tire judged to be unrepairable as it cut the side wall. The tire had only 12,000 miles.

The tire that came stock was a Michelin Pilot Sport PS52 ( 335/25 R20 ) Discount Tire claims that tire was discontinued and replaced by a Pilot Sport II . They had none in stock in the greater Houston Area and when they tried to order one from Michelin were told the independent Tire Dealers could not order any as they are all reserved for the new Corvette production. ?????

The local Discount Manager said his Regional VP is on it and will try to get me a tire. I tried Tire Rack and NTB with no luck . My local Chevy Dealer said they can get one in three days , but I am not sure they can based on what Discount told me .

Am I getting the straight scoop ? are these tires that scarce ? Anyone had recent tire replacement problems ?

Thanks

I was under the impression that the new tires are the Pilot Super Sport. The Pilot Sport PS2 has been out for years. I would look carefully at the tires on your car for the exact name and then get on the internet at TireRack.com and see what the site says.

I've never heard of a PS52 or a Pilot Sport II model from Michelin. Many of their tires have very similar names, so it's important to get the exact one.

A Chevy dealer might well have a better chance of getting the new Pilot Super Sport runflat since it's the OEM on the C7. My reasoning is that they might have to replace one on a new, unsold car at some point.

My dealer here told me that they would price match, even with TireRack, so you should give them a call at least.

I've been looking for the pilot super sports, they're on national back order. Figures, when I finally decide to bite the bullet on nice rubber, I can't get them.

not sure what Michelin's deal is but all of their big-boy tires are damn difficult to get a hold of. I needed a pair of 305/30/20s and they were 4 month back ordered (Back in Dec/Jan), got lucky and found a set go up on ebay... after checking every day for two weeks straight. ha

Why didn't you get one from your dealer? They said 3 days. I would have least tried.

National Backorder? Huh, I just order Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP for the GS at the end of June, they were delivered July 3rd. These things are picking up every piece of pebble and debris on the road and throwing against the car. Insane how much noise/damage is being made.

The feel of these tires is so much different than the Goodyears - in a good way.

Ordered Pilot Super Sports last Wednesday - OEM size for my 12 GS. Just had them installed this morning. The fronts were in town, the rear tires shipped from out of town. Discount Tire, they didn't seem to have any problem finding them.

ps: Pilot Super Sports are smooth and quiet ride , big change from my original GY RF's. (19,240 miles- I couldn't stand them any longer)

Did you get the run flats? They seem to be readily available. Here's what I got on Twitter today.

It's been going on for a while. I needed two rear PS2 ZP's [to match the fronts] last fall to replace the original GY's. Neither Discount, Kauffmans, or the Chevy dealer could find them or any other run flat Michelins in the standard size, which is the same as the C7. I finally had my independent Corvette dealer order them from Tire Rack. Since he sold them to me at his w/s price + mounting and balancing, it worked out okay.
