Owning a Corvette is more of a headache than pleasure?

Give it some time and it will become second nature how to drive a Corvette. Mine is lowered but I still instinctively know what I can go over and what to avoid.
But sometimes you can't avoid a hazard. Road gator took out my drivers side air dam and half the wheel well liner. Cars on one side and a concrete barrier on the other. 100 dollars later and it was good as new.

Meh, there are always the people that baby their car, but to me it's just a car. Things can be fixed if something happens, so no point in worrying (IMO).

Hard to have a vette remain pristine.
Especially if you use it. I do. Used it in rain and snow, although I don't drive it in the winter when salt is on the road. I don't know how long I'll be here. Hate to be in the here after wondering why I didn't enjoy the vette while I could. LOL. I feel your pain though. Last week a car in the opposing lane flipped up a chunk of macadam (our roads are terrible) striking my front right fender leaving a gash.

After some self inflicted curb rash the other day, I keep telling myself that it's not going to look new forever. Not working so far.
27k mi. on my purchased new '12.
I don't think most owners would agree with the "it's just a car" quip.

Probably true. Guess I'm not like most owners

I feel compelled to keep the Vette looking pristine all the time, hence I probably do not drive it as much. Granted going on 8 yrs now with the C6 I do let the upkeep slide some. For instance the tires are not always coated, I use 303 so the look is rather natural anyway.
I have not detailed the interior in over a year but I have maybe 3,000 miles driven. It is clean just haven't used the 303 on the interior.
So in a way the car is a pain. No mechanical problems and every time I do drive it it is enjoyable.
I suppose other things in life have become more important.

Most think it is a special car, myself included. That said I drive it all I can. Try to keep it as good as possible, but every car will show signs of use if it is driven.

My GS is my DD. I used to worry about driving a Corvette every day, but, I decided I really didn't need to pay taxes and insurance for 3 cars. Especially since I got my license in 1964 and at that time Corvettes were DD by default. Very few people had the money to keep an extra car or two. I lived in Conn. and saw Vettes driven through rain and snow and saw them parked on city streets overnight. If you can afford a garage queen, more power to you. But, the only thing I found that does (I have had a few of those) is too keep it nice for the next owner.

I took a ride on the interstate yesterday for the first time in a long time. Mainly to check my gas mileage. My coolant temp going north east stayed at 192 coming back south it went to 194.Oil-210..Tranny-170.Not Bad". The DIC read 96 degrees=about 107 degrees heat index.

Corvettes can make great daily drivers, but I think they are meant to be garage queens. As soon as you get one out into a public parking lot, it's like they are magnets for door dings, fender benders, etc.
So I guess in that regard, they are somewhat of a headache to own. I'm always constantly being careful with mine. Making sure I don't hit any dips in the road too hard that would hit the air dam. Making sure I park the f*** away from everyone so that nobody parks next to me. Making sure I don't get too close to a curb that would scuff/ruin a wheel rim or hitting the front of the car against a parking barrier.

To the OP, I guess i don't see how putting forth some effort to manage the situation detracts from the ownership of the car.
But now that you've learned from your own mistakes (and many of us have also learned those lessons), now you can move forward with the enjoyment phase of the car. If putting forth the effort to take care of it is more than you're willing to do, then I think you'll have your answer, and you can sell the car to someone else.
Good luck with it, and here's hoping that you decide that the enjoyment is worth the hassle!

Maybe I'm the exception, but I treat ALL my cars that way. I purposely avoid situations that offer potential harm to the car - no matter which one I'm driving (even my 2004 Malibu with 150k on it).

You will. The more you drive the more you will get used to how low the cars sets. I have owned three early C3's, and my '06 was my first C6. I had to make adjustments because of the low clearance.
I'm one that finds it hard to say it's just a car. But, I have learned to stop worrying about it while we're out, and that makes it more enjoyable to drive.

I'm on my 1st one. Never thought I'd own a Corvette. It isn't my DD and I am extremely **** about where and when I drive it. It has absolutely no dings, scratches, or rock chips on it yet. And I'm desperately trying to keep it that way.
I have absolutely no regrets buying it. I love it.
