Default Intake

I just bought a 2006 c6 with 24,001 miles on it. It is 100% stock.
I have been told that the first thing I need to do is change the stock intake and get a tune cause that models tune is really dumbed down. Would just changing the filter to like k&N filter help or do you recommend an all new intake?
Thanks
Tim

The K&N filter will not do a thing for performance. A tune will wake the car up and anytime you get more air you will help the performance. I would go with a set of long tubes a true CAI system and a tune. Most likely 35-45 hp gain.

Default for what it's worth

I have a K&N CAI and I believe it:

a. Makes alittle more noise
b. Revs alittle more quickly
c. Does squat for HP gains

My (in)take.....

Sorry, I thought you were talking intake and not air filter. The K&N is not a CAI, it takes the air the is if the engine bay. A true CAI, will be one that is isolated from the hot air of the engine bay and pulling in the outside air. Even those will not give you any noticeable increase in HP, even though they all make great claims. Like I mentioned above, a tune will wake your car up and also they can program the A6 transmission to be a lot more responsive.
I have an '07 with American Long Tubes high flow cats and a tune and it it run with the 450 HP C7's and a friend has a SC Mustang GT with 405 at the rear wheels and I can clean his clock.

Drive the car awhile before you jump into modding it on the recommendations of your 'dumbed down' advisers.

A better sounding exhaust is an obvious improvement over the too-quiet OEM, that would be the first thing to address IMHO, and a VaraRam CAI is a fairly easy DIY.

Congrats on your 'new' car.

I spent money on a fancy intake and filter and while it looked great it did nothing for performance other then sound good when I was getting on it. I did lose 2 mpg on overall fuel milage and when I researched it found the stock intake flows a lot of air to the engine. So I switched back to my stock unit and got my 2 mpg back and never looked back......

A nice set of Corsa mufflers and maybe an X pipe from the cats back will give you some gain and sound great also.......

Congrats on your 'new' car.

Yea I'm in no real hurry.
And have learned my lesson in the past about going crazy with mods.
1. it never ends. 2. There is always going to be a car that is faster.
I think a good intake and tune will put a little snap in it's step.
If anyone has any specifics as what you have done, I would love to hear about it and love pics.
Thanks again, you are so helpful
Tim

Get a FAST 102 before you get a cat back if you're looking or power. Cat backs are worth about 5HP, the FAST is worth a good 15-20 on an LS2, then throw in some headers, vararam and a tune you're looking at 45-50RWP total w/the 102.

Just get an A&A and be done with it... The post above will cost a ton and only get you 50 hp... so now you have 430 hp.... Get the A&A and your 550 on a stock car...But then your gonna need some traction... LOL

Quick question do the headers bypass the cat or no?

That's a HUGE price difference though. Parts for my idea for 50RWHP With the vararam+FAST+LT's guys are dynoing around 385-395 RWHP, that's a heck of a lot more power than 430 on the fly more like 450-460fly = 3K parts and labor. That's pretty decent. for around 3K
The supercharger is awesome idea, but that's like 8-10K. That's a lot more money. A lot of people don't have that laying around and the last thing they want to do is finance the SC.

That is a great deal, but not too many stumble upon deals like that. Absolutely he's going to want more HP, we all do. It's expensive. You're probably going to want more too!

You are correct I will want more.... Ill keep this for another few years and then move up to a 2012-13 GS and SC that ... I almost went that rout this time but didn't want to spend all that money right now .. so for 6k ill be good for another few years.... plus I just upgraded my stereo to all JL and would never get that expense back so ill wait a bit..
