I have a 2010 with Bluetooth and was unpleasantly surprised with the amount of static I hear when I press the button on the steering wheel. Is this common for C6s or should I spend some time figuring out why my car is different?

I noticed the mic cover changed in 2011. Were there Bluetooth updates along the way? If so, does anybody know if you can (and it's worth the effort to) retrofit the newer parts?
You can definitely upgrade to the 2011+ mic, and it's a worthwhile easy upgrade. But I don't think that would help with your static.
GM did release an over-the-air BT update, but you have to ask for it. Press your OnStar button and tell the advisor that you have static and want the OTA Bluetooth update. It's free (for now -- I think they will charge to do the upgrade starting next year), and you don't even have to take your car to the dealer.

I have a 2011 Z06, I wonder what year this update applies to?
I guess I can hit the onstar button and see what happens eh?
