2021 C6 of the Year Finalist - Modified
And to think, the average price for gasoline during the 60s was 28.9 cents per gallon for regular and 32.9 cents per gallon for premium.
And when there was a "Gas War" going on, the price was even cheaper! Of course there are no "Gas Wars" at the pumps anymore because the major oil producers drove the small independent producers out of business years and years ago.
And to think, they were all still making money at those low prices!

Now these fuel companies complain if crude goes below $100 per barrel ... unbelievable!

It's comical how we bitch about the price of a gallon of gas yet people gladly pay 1.69 for a pint of bottled water.
Lets see the oil companies had to risk large sums of capital to drill for oil. If they were lucky they found some, but still have to pay to have it transported and refined. Then ship to the gas station, where it is taxed by our government. The government makes more per gallon than the oil companies, ain't that great.
Now the water companies just bottle water from Houston (around here at least) ship it and sell it for $13 to 16 a gallon.

Oil prices this low is not good for the overall economy and very well might lead to recession.
People also waste a lot more, traffic is worse, and accidents and deaths increase notably.
The Feds should take this opportunity to significantly raise the Federal gas tax to improve our infrastructure. But those wimps won't do anything as we lead up to a Presidential election as no one wants their name/ party tied to a tax increase.
On a good note (if your a fool), if Trump wins the election he'll go to war with Iran and I'd expect $6 gallon gasoline almost immediatedly.

Not improving our infrastructure is damaging our competitiveness. Spending money in this area generates lots of employment and pays back 5 fold in increased productivity. I'd also like another 2 weeks off per year (2 weeks is just the extra time I spend sitting in traffic annually).
Just saying 'don't tax' is not a solution for running the country.

Bull$ht, hundreds of millions of people with extra money to spend on everything from dining out, new cars, new clothing, new gadgets and so on will do anything but hurt the economy.
And as wayback stated, there's plenty of money being sucked up in taxes, they're just pi$$ing it away in other places other than where it should go.

It is just what the economy needs! If oil went to $15 a barrel and gas was .99 cents a gallon this economy would be booming. Money would be spent everywhere. I don't know where you get your economic advice but it surely is not good.

I was in Chicago yesterday, gas was still well over $3 a gallon. Back up in WI, it is 2.47 for regular. Premium for my Corvette is still around 3.10

Hate to be the burden of bad news, but price of crud is way down, and even worse, gasoline is really a by-product of what crud is used mainly for instead (diesel even a bigger by product).
http://www.ranken-energy.com/product...0petroleum.htm
Without Cars and trucks to burn off the By-product of Crud oil for it's real use instead, the refiners of Crud would have a huge problem with the EPA of what the hell to do with the Gasoline and diesel they would have left over unused with no market for such.
Bluntly put, there a ton of fuels that the goverment could mandate as the needed fuels for cars and trucks to run on that don't come from crud oil (which will burn a lot cleaner a well), but you would be back to what to do with the gasoline and diesel that would be left over after it refined for main used of crude instead.
Simply put, it really comes down to what crud is used for mainly, and the gasoline by-product of it being sold and used fast enough that is does not become a burden with the refiners instead, and why we are seeing the prices of it drop way down instead.
So "Oil prices this low is not good for the overall economy", is total BS,
What is means is that the need for crude oil real needs is way up instead, and the refiners are ending up with a over surplus of the gasoline by-product that they need to get rid of by dropping the prices (instead of having to storing such and going bad) instead.
Also is means that the Koch brothers are hard at work retaining the dependency of gasoline by consumers, by pricing it so much lower that any other fuel alternates, that the others are not price effective options to begin with.

Bumper sticker seen in Midland Tx:
"Lord if you give us one more boom I promise not to **** off the money this time."
From the looks of F350 King Ranch welding trucks down there some of those folks did not learn their lesson.
Been witness and part of three different boom/bust cycles and people continue to spend like it will last forever. It never does.
It does produce a good case for picking up some firesale bargains though. Many ads saying "Take over payments".
Go to the Permian Basin and cruise the bank parking lots for tremendous deals on fifth wheel trailers. They are just walking off and leaving them in droves. Banks are having to lease vacant property just to park them on.
Might look good behind a C6!

Austin California also has a nice ring to it. Plenty of room in Death Valley to drop it off.
