It may be simply that your gas cap was not put on properly, especially if this happened proximate to a fuel fill-up. Mine started doing this recently, first noticed after a fill-up. I reapplied the gas cap gently, and in about an hour the gas gauge began to work properly. After about 2-4 cold starts the CEL went off as well. I'm going to replace my gas cap, on order from Gene Culley at CULTRAG.

Tried the Techron Additive. Didn't work.
My gauge works until I get to about half a tank. Then CEL comes on with "Check Fuel System" and the gauge reads 0.
Should I give in a replace the sending unit?

It will be expensive if you don't do it yourself though. You have to drop the gas tanks. Labour extensive to get this done.
