I'm thinking that the door latch has gone bad but I wanted to see what you guys thought before I ordered a new latch.
For awhile now, I have noticed that when you go to open the drivers side door, the door will unlatch/pop open but catch a little as you go to open it.
A few days ago, I closed the door and cannot get it to open back up unless I use the emergency door release. If I press the exterior pad or the interior button, the window indexes, the red light blinks, I hear a actuator/motor sound but the door does not open.
Do you guys think its the latch? Is it difficult to replace? Or if anyone has done this before, can the original latch be repaired?
This is a 2006 C6 with about 37k miles.
Thank you.

yep .. that is a bad latch ..
if I remember correctly, this is the part you need.
GM OEM Front Door-Door Lock Kit 88956758 -- it is pricey.
good luck !

.....make sure it is not just the touchpad on the door that has gotten dirty. Take it apart and clean it or get a replacement for about 15 dollars at your Chevy store. Once you determine that it is not the door pad causing you problems then it is the latch that has gotten lazy. I squirted some WD-40 into the latch mechanism and that helped for awhile but then it started to not work again after a week or so and then I changed it out......I took pics and will post them here soon....real soon.....it is not that hard of a job, its the trim removal that is a pain in the azz.........

This is how it worked for my 2010 Grand Sport....I do not know if it is the same for all the C6's......
First move the seat all the way forward to get it out of the way....
Then you have to carefully lift the door sill piece until it pulls loose, it will need raised to get to the other trim that needs removed....

This trim needs to be removed by lifting up on the bottom and pulling out away from the door post. Work your way up slowly and it will pop off.....

...lay it aside....this is what it looks like off.....

....carefully remove this gummy weird insulating stuff off the hole that has the latch in it......you will want to use this again.....I just got it out of the way...

...remove the 2 torx head screws .......can't remember what size....

...pull out the latch assembly......

...unhook the wires.....

...take the cover off the assembly.....2 small screws......

....the next step is to unhook the emergency latch cables from the latch assembly and reattach them to the new one. make sure the cables are hooked to the right place so your cables will function correctly......this is important.......

With your cables and wires reattached to the new latch and the latch cable cover replaced and the small screws tightened.....then stuff it back in the hole and put the front two screws on loosely to hold everything in place.
before doing that make sure you have all functions working correctly, such as the cable pulls and when you hit the door pad you should hear a click from the new assembly........

....Put the gummy stuff back on and replace the trim piece by snapping it back in.......

...to finish tighten outside latch screws to 89 inch lbs. and snap in bottom door sill trim......

......see....easy peasy.......kindof.........you can see the line on the sill trim where I got aggressive with it....but did not break anything........good luck........and I am not responsible in case you screw it up.......

It was a bit of a pain with a RSD roll cage, just a warning for anyone that has that cage.

Try E-bay!
I had the same issue on my 2009. The dealer cost for the part (without the emergency release cables seemed to range from $180 to $240. I found a replacement for $100 on e-Bay, with both release cables. There is a Youtube video showing how to remove and replace.

There are 2 torque screws (#27 bit) holding the latch. Replacement is easy. The trickier part is dealing with the two cables. Rather than replacing them (which would require removing additional inside trim panels, I used the existing ones. This requires removing a cover plate (2 small awkward torque screws) and attaching the cables to the mechanical release levers. An extra pair of hands would have been nice.
Total time - about 45 minutes. This means the dealer shop manual rate is probably at least 2 hours.
I will try to post some photos later
