Need advice: Best run-flats for 2012 GS?
It's time for new tires again. I've been running Michelin non-runflats and, although I've had no troubles, I've been thinking about regaining some peace of mind with runflats this next time around. I'd appreciate your best advice. Thanks in advance.

This is one of the most posted subjects on the Forum. It depends what you want to use the tires for; tracking, cruzing, a little spirited driving, cooler temps. Many companies make good tires for your your GS. Michilens seem to be the top choice but are also the most expensive. When I purchase skins for my GS I would consider Bridgestone and Firestone. I would stay with Run Flats if nothing else, just the peace of mind.

Bridgestones seem to be a well regarded alternative to the Michelins and the price is lower too. As I recall the wear rating is a bit better as well. I'm about 8-12 months out on a tire purchase for my GS and in my mind these are #1and #2 with the Michelins having bit of an edge in traction and the Bridgestones having a somewhat larger edge in cost and wear.
They are both considered to be significantly better than the OEM Goodyears in all regards. It seems to come down to which traits are most important to you.

I bought the Bridgestone Potenza RFT's last spring for my 13 GS. They have more than 9,000 miles on them and absolutely love them. They are quieter and smoother riding than the GY's. Since I don't track the car (except spirited laps at Iowa Speedways Road Course once a year) I had the Pfadt Street Alignment done which also helps reduce uneven wear.

I just installed the pilot super sport ZP on my 05. It feels like a completely different car after the eagle f1s that came off. I don't drive in the winter, if I did, I may have went a different route.

The Michelins I just installed made a HUGE difference over the GY runcraps. It was like a totally different car and rode almost like my C7. It's amazing how a great set of tires can transform a Grand Sport!

I bought a nice little fix a flat kit at Wal-Mart for $40. It includes a compressor and sealant all in one (it inserts sealant while filling up with air) and it fits perfectly in one of the storage boxes in my hatch and has a cigarette lighter power cord that can reach all the way without having to remove the wheels. And I haven't had a flat in 30 years anyways.
So I'd buy the kit and buy better performing tires than run flats personally.

I've never heard any bad things about the Michelin runflats. I have Firestone Firehawk RFT's on my car and don't really have any complaints on those.

Bridgestone RE050A run flats on my Z06. 30,000 miles on them and I'm down to 4/32" thread depth. Plan to run them to 40,000 and then replace with another set of Bridgestones.

1) this goop claims to be 100% sensor safe
2) sensors wear out in 5-8 year anyways and likely are half used up anyways
3) sensors cost like $55 at Discount Tire. I just had to replace 4 on my '09 GMC as they were acting up (not due to goop)
4) I haven't had a flat in 30 years! I ain't too worried about the small chance that I might have to purchase a $55 sensor 1 year earlier than it's full life span.
The reality is that Run Flats are a poor choice for tires.
