Default Artificial hip might be in my future

Hi, I own a 2012 C6 Grand Sport Convertible. I mention the convertible part because my guess is that limits how far back my seat can go compared to a coupe.

I am facing the possibility of perhaps needing to have my right hip replaced. Does anyone have knowledge of whether I would need to get rid of the Corvette??? Or do any of you have experience with what it means to get into and out of a C6 corvette with an artificial RIGHT hip???

Any feedback would be much appreciated... thanks... bob..

Ditto,

A good friend of mine just had his right hip replaced, he felt much better even after only a week. I will be talking to him later today and let you know his perspective.

My 86 year old mom gets in and out of my Corvette often. She has two artificial hips (both done in her 80's) and the surgery eliminated problems. It did not add any difficulties at all. Unless the surgeon screws up or you do not do your rehab, you should have more mobility. Not less.

Don't worry about it being a convertible...the seat movement is the same, coupe and Vert.

my Father in Law got a hip replacement and we had to slow him down. He forgot he was Bionic and sometimes got carried away. LOL

Yep had 3 total hip replacements,2 on the right, wore the first one out after 15 years and had the left one done last year and I just turned 60.Easier than ever to get in and out of my 08. Was back in it driving only 4 weeks after surgery.

Great to know... Thanks much... One tall person who isn't a Corvette driver who has two hip replacements told me he switched to a large SUV. He pointed low to the ground and said "he didn't think he'd be able to get into something like this". Again, a very tall man who likely wouldn't have fit well in a Corvette even WITH good hips. But that's what got me wondering about whether or not an artificial hip might be the end of my Corvette driving days.. Sounds like driving the car would still be reasonable even with a bionic right hip...

I do appreciate the feedback... thanks much... bob

I did talk to my friend, and he said that driving your car should not be an issue. It has been around three weeks for him and he feels great. He has to try and remember to slow down a little.
Hopefully your process goes just as smooth.

I thank you very much for going to the effort to talk with your friend. I'm not totally sure what's going to happen yet but I've certainly heard the words "total hip replacement". That has me stressed enough and then to think I might not be able to get in or out of the Corvette any more added another layer of grief... Thanks much for passing along the helpful information. Much appreciated... bob

Again, thanks for all the feedback... Sounds like I would be ok getting in and out of the car. Might tell the wife that a new C7 Z06 has more leg room... shhhh.... It could just be our secret... Nah, I still love my C6. As long as I don't have to climb in through the open top... thanks... bob

I had my left hip replaced 6 years ago and have also had 10 surgeries on my now totally fused lower back. As long as I exercise regularly I get in and out of my 08 coupe just fine.

Not going to be a problem.

New hip, they will have you out of bed the next day walking around after it's replaced, and in month or so, will have more flexibility that before you had the operation to begin with.

My wife is the office manager for a practice of 5 Orthopedic Surgeons, one of whom is the person looking into my hip issues. He's out of town right now but I asked her to ask one of the others about the Corvette issue, if I would need to give it up if I have to have the right hip replaced. Then it dawned on me that I have this huge resource of folks, here on the Corvette Forum, who could likely answer the question better than could the docs. And sure enough, you've all come through. thanks a ton for all the help. Much appreciated..

I think over at CFOT this came up recently and it was surprising how many guys were back in their cars after only a few days or a week or two. It will depend on which surgical approach is used and perhaps some rehab.

Just an observation, but I have more trouble getting in and out of my Vette with my knee replacement than guys have with their hip replacements. Having said that, I wouldn't give up my C6 for anything
