i just recently got my car back from the shop after replacing the clutch, master cylinder. clutch line, diff seals, 02 sensors, shifter seals, an input shaft. my car was down for over 3 weeks waiting on parts mostly. so i was wondering how many of u have sufferd through downtime this year? how long an why?
Mine was not because of a mechanical issue.
I was not able to drive my (6speed manual) GS for almost 3 months after breaking my collar bone and 3 ribs on a deer's head while riding my motorcycle @ 4am back in july.
Only time my 07 was in the shop for more than a day was for a new fuel pump and diff seals. Dealer had one trained Corvette mechanic to work on it. In the shop for 7 days. Not bad for 8 years.
Ice storm kept me in the garage for 10 days back when Superbowl was in Dallas.
Mine's never been in the shop other than regular maintenance. It was down for an hour or so because of a dead battery once ... long enough for AAA to come give me a jump, then for me to drive to AutoZone for a new battery.
There were times when I had quite a few Corvettes in the yard either waiting for parts or in line to get work done. (I had my own little corvette show going on
I had a C5 customer with a bad Crank Damper/Balancer. It was here for 3 weeks because they couldn't drive it anyway and wanted to make sure it was here when I got caught up.
Many times there are "while you're there" or "found this bad" situations so off to ordering parts again!
I've also had too many wrong parts come in. Parts guys are just not paying attention to what they are doing. The nearest parts place is about 20 minutes from me so that can be frustrating. Seems like every time I don't double check before leaving the parts store, one of the parts is wrong!!!
Also, many times the owner will think of additional things to do while it's there.
I've got a C5 here now waiting for a Headlamp Control Module and a Fuel Door Cable/Actuator Assy. I can't take the chance of ordering these ahead because if it's not that, I can't return these because of shipping or return policies or penalties. I've been caught enough times with excess inventory and don't want that to happen again.

My Vette and motorcycles were running fine but between selling and moving to a new home. Three unexpected surgeries for my wife and being responsible for a major project out of town, they basically sat for 6 months. What a crazy summer. We got past it all just in time to store everything for the winter.

Unfortunately, the weather in October starts to turn. We will get a few nice days but mostly it's windy, rainy and cold. Then it turns to snow. lol. I'll get them out a few more times but it's that time of year.

I'm right on the Northern Idaho/Washington boarder.
Ok, you're a bit ahead of me weather-wise. We may get a few nice days in early November, but they will be sporadic and unpredictable. Toy season is over by then.

dead battery in the garage, spouse drove me to work and to Autozone for a Red Top after work....I even dropped it in without shocking myself or the car and with my limited mech. skills that's notable!
