Seems like I've read a thread on here that the button's wiring may get corroded and need cleaning.
I never use that button ... had forgotten that it was even there. I always use either the one on the dash or the fob. Not even sure if mine works.

Common issue.
Do a search for instructions (remove rubber cap/ clean contacts).
Many successfully just clean it.
Replacement is cheap and easy.

Here is a PDF that might help you out. Forum Member RedLion did this repair many years ago.

Easy and simple fix just follow RedLion pdf, you'll be surprised at how much dirt is under that rubber.

While you're at it check to see that your key still works. The keyhole is notorious for filling up with dirt and road grime, and then not working when really needed.

The button is easy to pull, but if you plan on cleaning the button, it needs to be pulled down to this level so clean the electrical contacts as well. Also, do not lube the button in any way, since the lube will just attract dust back into it even faster.
