Has anyone swapped out their steering wheel?
I'm looking to put a 2012 steering wheel with the controls in it into my 2008 when I switch out the radio. I know I'll need a new clockspring but I'm not sure what exactly I'm looking for there. Can anyone guide me in the right direction? Is there anything else that I'll need?

Yes, I put the 2012 suede steering wheel on my 2009. The clockspring swap is only if your changing from the 2005 to something else. No need for you to change anything.
It's a really easy swap. Disconnect battery. There's 2 holes on the steering wheel that has a spring clip behind it, I used a long punch to depress it and pop the airbag off and remove the 2 airbag connector. There's another connector on the wheel that will need to be disconnected as well along with the retaining nut. Just gave it a good yank and the wheel will come off. Install is the opposite.

Nice sounds easier than I thought it'd be. What about the wiring harness? The wheel I'm taking off doesn't have any audio controls but the one I'm putting on has everything

From what I've seen with people swapping wheels with bluetooth onto cars without it, the buttons wont do anything.
I've seen one user that removed the buttons and epoxied the holes on the bezel and then vinyly wrap it.

Hm well maybe I'll make that a challenge for the local audio shop. Surely there's a way to connect that button to the aftermarket interface. I'm just a mechanical engineer so circuits are over my head

I had it done to my '08 at Carlisle a few years ago. I had some guys from a custom steering wheel vendor do it for me on the field for the price of giving them my old '08 wheel. Took them all of 10 minutes.
BEST mod I've made to my car. You'll love the difference it makes.

So it's a bit more complicated than just hooking up another object to the right wire. I've seen converters to adapt the SW buttons to a completely different radio, but I haven't seen one that just breaks out a specific function button to a different device.

If the OP already has SWC in his 2008 c6, he's GTG.
If his car does NOT currently have SWC, he *may* have the non-SWC clockspring, and might need to change it. (By the looks of his subsequent posts, it appears he does not have SWC on his current wheel, and needs to check his clockspring)
You can check the connector under the airbag to see which clockspring you have.
