Has anyone removed the mirror actuator and wiring from a door mirror? I have a friend that has a broken mirror housing. I want to take the actuator out and put into a different housing, but did not know how it is attached to the housing. I am babysitting this car and wanted to surprise him when he got back.

Thanks, for any help

I'm sure its held together with screws but wouldn't it be easier to just replace the whole mirror?

New mirror and painted to match is in excess of $500.

I found a housing for$95 and painting to match $125.

I don't know if this will help, but at least it's more pics.

jlong86 had a problem with his sideview mirror vandalized in 10/14: "Some jerk took only the dimming glass from my passenger side mirror. The housing and electronics are still there from behind the actual glass.

I've searched the forum and cannot find anything on point. I purchased just the glass online (item 3: http://www.gmpartsdepartment.com/par...agramCallOut=3)

Does anyone have any experience putting this thing back on? I'm not sure if it just snaps into place after connecting the power cords. I'm not sure if the thief broke one of the moving parts that adjust the mirror too. I can't find a picture online of the electrical assembly.

I'm wondering if it's worth it to have the dealer install.

Thanks"

here's another site and pdf to look at for installations. http://shop.muthco.com/content/pdf/install/21001440.pdf

markcz (tech contributor--you may want to contact him for hints on how to do it) posted this when jlong had trouble putting the glass back in: "It's not broken, you're just missing the 'peg' that goes between the mirror and the motor.

Try contacting one of the used parts places for a replacement."

Re pushing the mirror back onto the "pegs," I know from personal experience that you kind of have to have the knack for it. It's a very easy, and even push along the face of the glass so that it pops over the pins, but not break. Just be careful.

Hope this helps you; nice thing you're doing for your friend.

I just removed and re-installed the mirror glass yesterday.
1. the actuator/motor is held in the body of the mirror casing with torx screws. However, the inside door panel must be removed to remove the mirror so you can run the new actuator wire harness. If you are just removing and replacing the mirror glass portion it’s easy. The re-installation is tricky… use a small piece wood on the mirror side to prevent crack the glass. Position the actuator legs carefully into the actuator and align the center swivel mount and press the mirror into place. I hope this helps.

Here’s a video of how to pull the whole mirror which you’ll need to do to get to the wiring connectors, the yellow plug he mentions in the video iss actually the XM antenna wire, the XM antennas are mounted in the mirrors on both sides on the 06+ vettes, the 05’s use a different antenna for XM that’s not mounted in the mirrors.
