Default 90k mile service?

I got an error message on the DIC "service charging system" and after searching here it looks like it could have been 5 different things so just took it into the dealership. Turns out my battery cable is corroded just not at their terminals since I don't see any corrosion. It is $400 to put in a new cable lol it's the best price they can do.

Now they're also telling me I need to do a 90k mile service (the car has a hair over 90k miles now) - which includes replacing the drive belt, brake / power steering fluid, etc. and the cost is insane IMO.

My car is at the dealership so I don't have my owner's manual on me, but after a quick search it doesn't look like there's a recommended service at 90k miles? It looks like one at 75k miles and 100k miles?

I would "Shop around" before having your dealer do the work. We have found dealerships in our area that are fair. The best is Abel Chevrolet.

I would agree with the maintenance that they suggested at that mileage.

Hopefully someone in your area will chime in with some advice...

I would also agree with the service they recommended if it wasn't done at 75k miles. Drive belts are not expensive and the labor on that shouldn't be bad.

I'd definitely have the brake fluid and PS fluid flushed, as well as coolant... again, if it hasn't been done recently.

Not saying the dealer is the best place to have it done...as their labor can be expensive, I understand. Main thing is to find a service place you TRUST with your car to do the things you cannot do yourself, or don't feel comfortable doing yourself. That's worth the cost...whatever it is, IMHO.

Thanks 2K_Cobra, unfortunately I just didn't have time to shop around due to work and this dealership has serviced my car for the past 3 years so figured they wouldn't go in raw on me, but alas...

It looks like most guys on this forum got their battery cable changed out for closer to $300 but the dealership wouldn't budge. The battery cable is $180 on their end when I found it online for $80...but they can't put on a cable I bring due to their need to warranty their work

If the 90k mile items are legitimate then I will need to seek out an independent shop...or just sell the car as much as I still love it after 3 years. The car's been having intermittent issues starting / detecting key fob and after replacing the batteries in the car and the key fob, the "service charging system" error message made me cave in to the dealership. I just don't want to spend $$$ on the 90k mile service only to run into more issues.

I've put about 50k miles on the car in the last 3 years, and other than the driver door latch malfunctioning everything else has been good...searching on this forum it looks like C6s' non-powertrain-related componenets start to "fall apart" at around 90k miles...

i had similar issues after 75,000 miles. Nickel and Dime things started going wrong and no sooner one thing was fixed, another would pop up after 90,000 miles. Just sold the car which I loved with 115,000 miles to a buyer that owned a shop and could do the needed repairs for a lot less than my mechanic wanted to charge. Just purchased a C7 last month and have no regrets about letting the C6 go.
