Default Tires

Looking for new tires for the front of my 2008 c6. Anybody know if it is safe to mix brands. Have goodyear supercar f1 on the front now. Would like to replace front only with michelin pilot sport ps2. Also, anybody running tires that are not run flat and just taking chances on a flat and having to get towed?

Thanks skip

Mixing tire brands will probably be okay if you've got the same brand on both front tires, but don't mix runflats with non-runflats.

I had the same situation as you ... GY SuperCar tires with the fronts worn out due to the factory alignment, and plenty of life left in the rears. I did what you're not supposed to do ... I mixed runflats with regular tires ... got Michelin Pilot SuperSport regular tires for the front. It really didn't have any negative effect at all. In fact, when I bought SuperSports for the rear about a year later, it actually drove worse. So mixing isn't recommended, but for daily driving, in my experience, it's fine.

Mixing brands isn't an issue (every brand has many different tread patterns, and grades, including RF and non RF, so don't assume that one tire of any brand is compatible with an entirely different tire of the same brand). Mixing RF's and Non RFs may, although I did it for awhile and didn't have a problem on the street. I have also mixed types; Mich.A/S fronts with GY summer high performance rears. I didn't notice any problem for the 10,000 miles those particular GY runcraps were on the car.

In my experience, as long as you have the same tire (of close to equal age) on both sides of each axel, you are OK for normal street use, just like the majority of every other car out there.

Right now, I have Bridgestone A/S rft on the front and Michelin Pilot sport plus ZP on the rear due to unavailability of the Michelins, and don't expect any unusual problems, due to Brand "incompatibility".
