Good morning, I have a 2005 C6, I have the old round FOB's, can I replace them with the newer one, the square one? If so, what do I need to perform? Please let me know.
Yes, you can. You will just need to program it to the car. Instructions are on this forum. It's not hard. You will need the key cut to match your vin #. The newer fob key does not fit into the key hole the same as the old one. It's a more narrow key. You will need to either replace the lock mechanism for the hatch release or cut the original key and replace it into the new fob key holder. IMO it's not worth the trouble since the older version works fine.
From what I've read here the newer one has many more incidents of accidental button pushing in the pocket though compared to the old version.
Electrically, the fob will work fine. The newer fob however cracks more easily and is less durable also. It's a "be careful what you wish for" situation.
Thanks for the information, I think that I will buy the same ones that I have, as it looks like the new ones are more delicate than the one I actually have.
I have a 2005. I replaced it with the newer style FOB.. it programs fine, the car starts, the doors lock, the doors unlock, BUT, the trunk button does not work.
I ordered ANOTHER fob thinking maybe just the trunk but didn't work on that particular remote. Same thing.. trunk button doesn't work, everything else works perfect
So.. just a heads up. I don't know why, but I doubt I got two remotes that both had a bad trunk button
I'm still using the new style key as I like it quite a bit better, but if the trunk button not working would be a huge deal to you, you may want to take that into consideration.

Thanks!!!!
We had a 2006 with the old fob, now a 2009 with the new fob.
Count yourself lucky to have the old one.
The new style is bigger, heavier, squarer, harder to open for battery replacement, more fragile, often hard to remove the key. It requires you to keep the fob and key together, so if you lock the fob in the car or lose it, you're out of luck unless you made/hid a duplicate.
It also get activated by stuff in my pocket much more often. With the old fob, maybe once a month I'd bend over or something and set off the panic alarm. With the new fob, it was once a day until I bought a fob jacket that makes the new style even bigger, and I cut stiff plastic to shield the buttons.
I have to agree that it's MUCH easier to hit buttons by accident on the new one. I can't even remember how many times I've set the alarm off on accident.
Like I said...sort of a "be careful what you wish for" situation. I figure that since the fob never comes out of my pocket until I put it in a drawer at home, the practicality of the old style is more important than the looks of the new one.
anyone ever gotten an 05-07 fob to work in the 08+ cars? I'd love to have a smaller fob to keep in my pocket
Absolutely...electrically, all C6 fobs are the same...go for it. The Cadillac fob with the same FCC number on it also works with the C6. That's what I use for my 'beater' fob. Programming instructions here: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...tructions.html
I've had two newer fobs where the trunk buttons didn't work on my 05, so I'm not convinced they're 100% the same. Lock, unlock, alarm and starting worked fine on both of them, just the trunk button didn't work. I can't see getting two in a row with bar trunk buttons.

Just a heads up of something to look out for.
First I've heard of this on the forum...interesting.
