Default Newbie C6 Question

Hey guys, new to the corvette world. Should my 09 A6 have the ability to burn/smoke tires like in the bounderant borla ad or do I need a standard tranny?

Warm up to operating temp, turn off traction control, hang on and punch it. Your tires should be smoking.

If you are not able to smoke those tires, you probably have not turned off the traction control. Remember, it turns itself back on every time you restart your car.

I've tried traction control off and in sport mode, no luck. Seems like a childish question but I don't want to spend too much in upgrades if I needed another car, ie Z.

By merely punching it from a stand still?

Your car should be able to do a 100 ft burnout no problem.

You guys are pulling my chain right? We talking about a stock A6. No neutral drop business.

My 2003 stock Corvette with auto tranny would smoke the tires when I punched it with the traction control off. Your C6 certainly should do the same. I'm wondering if your traction control is really turning off.

Make sure its in 1st gear , in D the car will start out in 2nd , you have to mash the throttle to get it to drop to first and even then there is a delay sometimes

Drop it into S and use the paddle shifter to drop it down to 1st grear

Turn traction control off , pake sure the car is straight and there is nothing around that you can hit

Mash the throttle and hold on , I call it STAB IT AND STEER IT
Be ready to shift it

You're saying that if I'm at a complete stop and floor it in "D" the car will start out in 2nd gear ?

My 2013 GS goes like a bat outta hell but it won't smoke the tires from a dead stop. It will do a decent burnout but not a tire melting smokey burnout. Just a stomp, no brake assist or neutral drop.

I was actually disappointed as I was expecting better. The tires don't even leave marks on the pavement

Now if I were to brake assist in the beginning I'm sure it would be a different story.

Thanks Dave, ill give that a try. I didn't realize it started off in 2nd gear as well. I bought this vette while shopping for my 2nd Viper, thinking I got a good deal on it. I was saddened to think, wow this thing cant even burn rubber. Im a conservative driver but its nice to know theres power available if the desire arises

Old cheapskate here so at the price of tires you will not find me 'smoking' the tires! At least not intentionally!

There is one thing that I have noticed that is really different from my younger days driving my 1970 454 LS6 Chevelle and my 70 LS6 Corvette and other assorted muscle cars I had during that era

When I did a burnout in those cars you heard the tires screaming for mercy when I lit them up...... no matter what .......

With my C6 with Michelin Pilot Super Sports , both Runflat and regular , unless I am using the brake as a line lock , these tires are quiet .

When I just punch it off the line with the traction control off and the transmission in 1st gear the only way I know I am spinning the tires is because...

1- The rear end is swaying all over the place

2- The two black marks I just left on the ground like an immature child

3 - And the smell of very expensive fresh rubber in the morning.......

Not sure why

Now with the Traction control on ,after a slight bog that I am attributing to the nannies pulling back on the power , my C6 pulls like a freight train as long as I want it to and hold it to the floor

Car does not start off in second gear! Only time that happens is when you are using the paddles, then it only downshifts to second when you stop, without the paddles you start in first.

I think you're right, with one clarification:

If you've been using the paddles, but you come to a stop without downshifting with the paddles, then it will drop into and start out in 2nd.
