Default Front Lic Plate!

If the State of Texas thinks I am going to drill into the front facia of my car for the front Lic Plate, they are crazy! How may run without even though the state requires it??

I would be getting a ticket every two days in my area if I had no front plate...

Unfortunately MD also requires a front plate and the State Troopers don't take kindly to non-compliance. I've found the Top Flight bracket is a good alternative to the factory bracket.

Their plate holder design looks better than factory. Easy install. I put a tinted plate cover on from autozone, it blended the plate into the car even more.

Top Flight is the way to go. I held out until the third warning. When they u turn across three lanes to tell you that you have to have a front plate you come up with something. DPS troopers are the only ones that have stopped me. No other agency gives it a second look.

I have my front plate with me in one of the rear storage areas, but don't display it. I do have a plate holder from Corvette World that attaches with double-sided tape if I am forced to use it though. So far, so good!!

Texas is not extreme at enforcing the law but may get one of the topflight to have on hand in case

Jersey sure isn't known for "benign" law enforcement on the roads, but I've been running without a front plate for the past ten years without any problem. Majority of our club members do the same (I'm the silver C6 in the pic). I do carry the front plate & frame behind the passenger seat in the event I do get stopped...."But officer, it just fell off!"

I keep mine there too.

Front plates are required here in NYS but most guys don't run them because cops generally don't care. At least in my area.

I feel so fortunate that in our Province, although mandated to 2 plates, have a provision to use seasonal plates (April 1-Nov1) which only require a rear plate. Since most people with vettes, and other seasonal vehicles store their vehicles for the winter, the seasonal plate is very popular. Sure, I could run the car until the end of December, but I don't have an issue putting it away in November.

The C6 just does not look good with a front plate...they ruin the nice lines of the car.

What really bites, is that 7 of our 10 Provinces do not require 2 plates.
If 7 don't need 2 plates, why do the other 3 need them????
That is a bone of contention with me and others.
I've tried to sway the government, the ones about to form government, but they say it's for the safety of the public...really?????
So 7 Provinces don't give a Rat's butt about the public safety?

That's my rant

I don't run one on the Vette either. I will take my chances and pay the fine. Local police don't seem to care but DPS does. Didn't used to run one on my Jeep but got stopped by DPS so I now do on all my cars except for the Vette.

The way the V & T laws work here (or used to anyway) is if your car meets your state's requirements, you can travel to any other state without complying to their requirements.

I remember as a kid traveling to Pa. where inspections were required for any vehicle, but weren't in NYS unless the car was real old, so we were legal in Pa.

And cars from states that don't require front plates can drive legally in NYS.

Who knows what the laws are nowadays, have no clue.

During our many road trips, we've travelled many of the states that require a front plate and have never been pulled over or questioned about us only have a rear plate.
Maybe once they see we are from Canada, they don't have any legal jurisdiction on the plate law. I do carry, in my glove box, the rules that our province has for plates, just in case I am ever questioned.

5 years now with no warnings for having my plate on my dashboard.

I know it wont last forever. I'll eventually get a Top Flight.

Default Required in CA but just about nobody does.

I have had three Vettes over the last 12 years without the front plates and fortunately never been stopped. Almost all the Vettes you see here do not have them on. Even the dealers do not bother mounting the bracket when they sell them. Of course that one time I may have had a few too many beers my luck will run out.

Many plate holders, including the GM factory plate holder, are stuck with two sided tape. No drilling is required. The plate holders may leave marks on the paint just from vibrating against the paint as you drive.

I had my factory plate holder on for many years and removed it, there were several marks that fortunately did buff out, but no drilling is required.
