Our 2012 that we purchased used is the base model. I am getting used to not having many frills but the black calipers suck. Was visiting a friend in St Louis this weekend and was looking thru his C7 magazine, he just took delivery is his yellow 2016 Z06, and saw caliper covers. Anyone tried these? If so, how long do they last? I know I can paint the ones on there now but I see me screwing that up.
I had them on my Saleen mustang. I believe they were made by MGP (red in color). While they were only $199 at the time I think that painted OEM calipers look much better. Covers look cool from a distance but up close everyone knows they are just covers. Is your car a Z51 car? Also, people mention that heat buildup is greater due to them, I cannot comment on that.
There are MANY threads on this subject and many guys say forget covers. Either paint or powdercoat. I had mine powdercoated and then installed them myself to save some $$. Covers look like plastic purchased at Walmart. Cheap and plain.

Nooooo covers! You can paint them with caliper paint which works very well for about $25 or do an exchange for powder coated calipers which is the best way to go. If you choose to go with the powder coated units just be aware the old calipers must be removed and upon installation of the new calipers the brake system must be purged to remove the air that entered the system. Cost, about $350 to $400 for the exchange calipers and another $200 to $300 for the install if you are uncomfortable with doing it yourself. By the time everything is installed you could be in the $500 to $700 range providing you cannot do the swap yourself. Paint will cost you about $25 total and several hours of cleaning and tapping everything off but not as nice and durable as powder coating.
Covers are expensive and comically oversized. Anybody who knows what a caliper looks like is laughing when they see them. Probably rare but since they just clip on, imagine the damage if one came off while driving. Painting is easy to do at home, durable, way cheaper and looks great.

Paint the whole thing red. After the paint drys, scrape off the letters with a razor blade. Takes seconds. I sprayed mine with clear after I cleaned off the letters

he's done lots of work for members on this forum. i had my calipers turned around in less then a week. Very happy with the results.
I've used the G2 paint on some calipers before and they look good. If you drop your head right in front of them however, you can see the finish isn't smooth and it doesn't look factory.
