The exit on the passenger side of the X-pipe is straight, the 09 and up turn towards the rear of the car.
So as mentioned, the muffler itself is the same, but the pipe connecting to the muffler is different.

You can also cut the pipe at the straight section, rotate it so it lines up with the 09+ x pipe, and then weld the cut. That way you don't have to cut the old NPP mufflers and then you can sell them or keep them as spares if need be. I did this for a friend and it fit in perfectly. The pipes are the same except for the angle of the inlet. If you can't weld you could probably use a 2.5 inch butt joint exhaust clamp.
