Default Door/Window Issues--Help Needed

Looking for advice and to see if this has been an issue.

Recently my drivers door has started acting weird. My window keeps going down a little like the door isn't closed. Then I have to use the door release in the floor board. If I shut it a few times then it seems to work. As I am driving the window will go down a little like I opened the door. I can not get the window to go up when this happens. It rained yesterday while this was happening. Then later on it will go all the way up on it's own.

Could this be a door issue, door pad issue, hinge issue?

It seems to have trouble registering whether the door is closed or open.

Thanks for any help and guidance.

RE-index the window. As I recall this is done by bringing the window all the way down, then up again and holding the switch in the up position for about 3-5 seconds. Double check the manual but when the same thing happened to me this fixed it.

Resetting the window indexing.

With the engine running and the window down, close the car door. Raise the window and hold the up switch an extra 3 seconds. Release. Without lowering the window, hold the up switch again for 3 seconds. Release. Done. Don't forget the other window.

This will need to be done to both windows every time the car battery is disconnected, then reconnected.

I hope it is that simple. I haven't disconnected the battery and it isn't an all the time issue. It happens randomly going down the road (like the car thinks I opened the door)

I will try re-indexing them and see what happens

I would think you are right in that it could be a door pad issue. They are cheap enough that you can get one and replace it. Should be less then $25. You can take it off, then take it apart and clean it with contact cleaner. That would be even cheaper option to try.

You can also just swap the driver and passenger side doorpads and see if the problem moves to the other side, since your passenger side isn't doing it. This will tell you if it the door pad or not, but not actually fix the problem.

Replacing it would definitely eliminate it from being the problem though.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think the switch that tells the car the door is open or closed is built into the latch mech in the "B pilar" area. Those run around $150 . So I'd try the door pad first.

"My window keeps going down a little like the door isn't closed. Then I have to use the door release in the floor board."

Figure out why this happens and you will likely solve the window problem at the same time. The car seems to think the door is already open. Do you get a door warning message on the DIC?

You can swap the contact pads from the passenger door to rule out that part.

Then your issue will either be with the door control module, or electronic door latch.

I'm dealing with the same issue. These are my symptoms, and then I'll copy and paste a PM from a helpful forum member that may help you. Let us know what you decide to do.

Sometimes after closing driver door the window repeatedly indexes itself a bunch of times in a row until I open and close the door again, sometimes it does not index at all and will fix itself after a few minutes of driving. Sometimes the window will roll down fine, but not go back up at all until it magically fixes itself after driving for a few miles

Sometimes after closing door the entire door will actually completely pop back open (Not half-way open but still locked, completely open)

Sometimes door will not open with the inside or outside button and I have to use the manual latch to get it open.

Recently for the first time the window actually rolled itself all the way down with no input, and would keep going down on its own a few times after I rolled it back up, then eventually got stuck a few inches out of the door. When this occurred the door panel was taken off and door hardware checked out. Nothing was physically blocking the window, but after the window continuously gets stuck 2' up every time the motor was clearly just not engaging at all. So no problem with the actual motor itself. 10 minutes later of driving I tried it again and the window rolled back up completely normally and even indexed.

Maybe 20% of the time, the door will function completely normal with all functions.

What I have tried without success:

Battery reset multiple times
Removed and cleaned door contact pads
Swapped door contact pad with passenger side
Replaced key fob (Old was cracked and sometimes needed to be held together to work)

Passenger door does not exhibit any problems at all, so I think I can pretty much exclude the possibility of a bad body control module

These are the window DTCs:

DTC B1011
DTC B1420
DTC B3170, B3175, or B3280
DTC B3205
DTC B3377, B3382, B3387, B3392, B3467, or B3472
DTC B3542

These are the door DTCs:

DTC B1474, B2966, B2981, B3848, or B3849 (DDM/PDM)
DTC B1474, B2966, B2981, B3848, or B3849 (RCDLR)
DTC B2517 or B2518
DTC B3142 or B3152
DTC B3145 or B3155

A lot of these are voltage related so make sure you have the correct power levels at the modules inside the door.

None of these DTCs can be read by an OBDII scanner you will need a Tech 2 or equivalent level scanner to see if any of these are present.

The Driver Door Module controls a lot of that stuff so if the voltage and ground going to that module are OK the module becomes a primary suspect.

You will need to pull the interior door panel to get to it. Make sure the harness going to it is firmly in place and making good connections.

When I could only get the driver door open on my 08 by using the emergency pulls on the floor or in the hatch area the window started indexing up and down on its own. Dealer replaced Driver Door Module and all problems were resolved. It receives the open door signals from the door switches, checks to see if the window has been indexed (indexes it if it isn't) and then permits the door to be opened.

Passenger Power Door Latch Unlatch Operation:

The remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR), driver door module (DDM) and body control module (BCM) control the output functions of the driver power door latch. These output functions allow the RCDLR and BCM to command the driver power door latch motor to Unlatch.

When the RCDLR receives an input from either the driver exterior door handle switch or driver interior door handle switch, it checks the Lock/Unlock status of the driver door. If the status of the driver door is Unlock, the RCDLR applies the ground for the driver power door latch.

At the same time that the RCDLR is receiving its input, the DDM is also receiving the same input. When the DDM receives its input from the door handle switch, it checks the window indexing status of the driver door. If the window is below the index point, it sends a serial data message to the BCM to apply voltage for the driver power door latch. If the window is above the index point, it will first index the window, then send a serial data message to the BCM to apply voltage for the driver power door latch. For a better description of window indexing, refer to Power Windows Description and Operation.
